She gave me painkillers and treated any bruises, then laid on my bed with me. We were close enough to not find it awkward. "I-I'm really sorry about him... Trust me, if I didn't have to go, I wouldn't. I'd rather stay here and make sure you don't cause any mischief."
I roll my eyes. "You haven't done it for months. I've been in college."
"I know, but even so. I liked it. It made me feel like a mom."
Snorting in laughter, I stared back up at the ceiling. "You act like one. A better one than our actual mom at that too."
"Aww, thank you!" She giggled and hugged me, knowing I was no longer in pain.
"Anyway, I have some good news~" She said, sitting up and smiling.
"What?" I mumble, looking up at her. She was strangely happy again. She always seemed to be at the weirdest times.
Checking her phone when it buzzed for one second, she looked at me straight after. "Dad hasn't cancelled my credit card, and he gives me $6000 a month. I'll pay for your flat, ok? I'm not about to leave my little baby brother alone! You didn't think I would, did you?"
"At the time I wasn't even thinking of it. I was just scared."
She giggled at me, playfully kissing my forehead. "Softie."
I rolled my eyes and looked away. "How would you feel then if dad kicked you out? You too wouldn't know what to do."
"Touche." She nods and lays down again.
"Anyway, since we're leaving tomorrow, we better get one. Dad said you can go out, since he seems to not give a fuck, so we're going to an estate agents to get you flat. Then we'll come back and sort out your stuff. If you want we can also go furniture shopping, ok?"
I stared up at her in both disbelief and smiles. "Thank you." I mumble, hugging her waist.
"Your welcome~ now come on! I'll give you ten minutes to change." She smiled and got up, running out and shutting the door behind her.
Not wasting any time, I got up and changed out of my sweats that I was wearing before. When I was done, and had a look at the bruises that had already appeared, I walked out and saw her just coming out of her room. She had brushed her hair and put on make-up, which didn't surprise me.
I knew the both of us were thinking the same thing when we heard dad's office door opening and closing upstairs. She ran over and grabbed my hand, ran down the other flight of stairs, and out of the front door. She then went straight to her car and let go, getting into the driver’s seat and starting the car.
I got into the one beside her, sighing, my heart beating fast. I wasn't tired from the running. My heart was going 103 beats a second because I was scared, yet again. Dad would always say something mentally scarring or get violent for no reason whenever I passed him, which is why I stayed in my room. Even then he'd sometimes come in and start hurting me, but it happened less. Once I was in the living room and he beat me for an hour straight because some business deal went wrong.
She drove off, sighing also. "Sorry."
"No, actually, thank you. I wouldn't have thought as to run out here. I'd have gone back into my room and lock the door." I'd done this before and had to stay in there for three days to make sure he wouldn't still be in a bad mood. It worked, but I had to starve and go without water.
"It's okay." She smiled.
She then stopped at a Dunkin Donuts when we passed one to get a dozen donuts to share. "Packing fuel~" She had called it.
I roll my eyes at her but playfully, so she giggled. She got a half dozen sugar ring donuts and an assortment of other new limited edition ones for the other six.
We ate one each, then put them in the back seats when she drove again to eat later. She drove to an estate agents like she said, parked outside, then lead me in.
"Ms Lycan!" One of the workers stood up. "Good to see you again."
She smiled at him, sitting in one of the chairs in front of his desk, motioning for me to sit in the other, so I did. "Good to see you too Levin." She said, using her formal businesswoman voice.
"What shall it be this time? Office block? Filming areas? Or a holiday home, perhaps? We have a new one in this lovely forest."
"Tempting, but for now all we need is a flat for my brother." She cocked her head to the side, pointing to me with it.
He looked at me and smiled. "What kind?" He asked, looking back at her.
"Two bedroom, reasonably big, around this area, rent from $250 to $1500." She said simply, clearly knowing what she was doing.
Nodding, he started tapping away on his computer. Then he turned the screen to face us. "We have one three miles away from your current address. It's in a block of flats, quite a big building, but there is only thirteen flats. Five floors, and three per floor. It's in the fourth floor, with the biggest balcony. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, a separate storage room and dining room. The living room has no wall to separate it from the hallway, however we can always install a thick curtain to separate it, if wished. Rent is $809 per month." He says, leaning back in his seat as Melissa clicked through pictures.
"What's the area like people and crime wise?" She asked while checking things.
He pondered. "The people are all well off, yet aren't that snobby and are reasonably nice, depending on many things such as your wages, criminal past and the way your clothes look. Most of the people though are pure. Crime wise, the rate is very low however pickpockets tend to hang around there." He said. He had a dad grin. Suddenly I didn't trust him, but I remembered the amount of times Melissa has been here in the past ten years and decided to let it go.
"Ah, and the security measures are high. There's a security guard in the lobby at all times, 24/7 calls for free down to the lobby in case of help, bars on the windows so you can keep the window open and be safe, and two locks on the front door. To get in the building you need ID."
She nods, smiling. "What is the deposit and how long does it take to move in?"
"Deposit is $1618, two months’ worth of rent. And I'll have to contact the seller if you want to get it now, I'm sure it won't be a problem to get it immediately."
She smiled and looked at me. "Well? I'm fine with it."
I leaned forward slowly and looked at the pictures, then bit my lip. "Are you allowed pets..?"
"Oh, right, Alexander!" Melissa face palmed.
The dude chuckled. "How many pets do you have, and what are they?"
"One Samoyed..."
He nods and turns the screen back to him, checking something else.”Pets are allowed. And with your current dog, you'd be allowed one more big dog or two small ones, a cat, and a limit of 3 small animals."
I smile and look at Melissa, nodding.
She shrugs. "If you want it, then okay. Could you please contact the seller immediately? We'd like to get things rolling as soon as." He nods and looks at the number, then calls them.
While he did so and talked to them, Melissa looked at me back. "What do you think dad would do if I chose to stay here?" She whispered.
"Uh, shout, possibly try and hit you, shout some more, but let you. As long as you’re fine with having nothing to do with him after and getting no money.”
She bit her lip a little. "Better go then... Hold on. I'll talk to him." She motioned to the dude that she would leave quickly, and when he nodded, she got up and left, calling him.
