Since it was the last day before I was to go back to work, I flopped around for the rest of the day, enjoying the silence. The walls of the apartment were thick, therefore soundproof, so any noise from other apartments couldn't be heard. Ein was temporarily out which made it even better.
I wasn't that used to silence. Normally there was moaning from another room, or music blaring to cover up the moaning. The only silence I ever got was driving to work, and even then I couldn't sit back and enjoy it.
In my bed for half the day, I only ever got out to go to the bathroom or get snacks. Ein never asked what I was doing when he got back and did the same thing as me, however he did tell me he applied for multiple jobs and went to a couple of interviews.
The day passed quicker than I expected. I didn't lay in the silence all day and actually watched YouTube for 3/4 of it, but even so. I had fun so I counted it as a relaxing day and planned to spend one of my two off-work days to relax like that before I had to get groceries and stuff every week.
I went to bed early so that I could wake up early too. Thankfully I had set an alarm on my phone, and it didn't turn off for the first time in forever. I woke up to the loudest, most annoying song in my playlist. I always put my phone at the other side of the room too so that I had to get up to answer it, and by the time I got to it, I was wide awake.
It took only an hour to have a quick shower, dry my hair and put on my work clothes. It took an extra two minutes to do makeup, but that didn't matter too much, and I never put on a lot of make-up unless it was a special day. By special, I mean, a holiday, birthday or a day at work when there was some kind of event and multiple people were coming.
I made breakfast for myself, bacon and eggs since I had time, and make some for Ein too, accept I put the plate outside his door then knocked on it. I ate slowly as to not choke, then grabbed a long jacket that covered my uniform and shoved my phone and wallet into my 7 year-old backpack, then left. Once I locked the door behind me, I put my keys in my backpack too then walked down to my car.
I noticed somebody else getting into a perfectly clean white G-Wagon, in the same parking lot that was for the apartment building, and rose a brow but didn't question them. I didn't expect for somebody so rich to be in an apartment. Then again, I can technically be classified as a rich kid despite having an average income, so I couldn't be one to talk.
I had to stop for gas on the way to work and use some of my data to find directions to Grape Yard from the apartment, but other than that I was fine. While I was in the gas station I got coffee anyway, despite being able to get it free at work, so that made things better.
I got to work earlier than expected so I stayed in the car for a while longer, watching some anime until my shift was due to start. When it started I got out and walked inside to see Cyril, the manager, instantly. "Hey." I said, smiling a little and signing a book all employees had to sign when their shifts started, as well as the exact time.
"I need to call a quick staff meeting, so can you go into the dining room quickly?" He asked, then said the same thing to a co-worker as they came in too. I shrugged in response and put my jacket on my hook, then grabbed the company phone that I was assigned and walked to the dining room. Four workers were already there, looking nervous. I stood still, clutching the phone with both hands.
When everybody was there, everybody was all ready to start working and pissed off because we were being held up. Cyril stood in front of us all, hands in his pockets. "The owners of all the restaurants that are currently open have decided to make some changes to staffing. Waiters and waitresses are now expected to load the dishwashers with the plates and things from their tables."
"What about the people who do that already?" Someone asked.
"They were fired. That's why you were all promoted. And also, you're expected to clean your uniforms yourselves after the workday is complete. I’ll let this rule take place tomorrow as most of you come here in your uniforms. The washers are located in the room next to the extra walk-in downstairs. For now, there is no changing rooms, so we’ll just have to use the bathrooms. You can bring in bags to hold your clothes and I’ll keep them in my office.” He explained. “I’ve ordered lockers but they won’t arrive until next week.”
Everybody groaned at his words but I stood without a reaction. “Meeting dismissed.” He said, then walked to the front door.
We all set about getting the tables ready while the cooks began to get the kitchen prepared, making things that took ages ahead of time such as grated cheese and slicing vegetables. The rest of the workday was the same, despite having to put the cutlery and such into the multiple dishwashers ourselves.
