"I have an idea," Jamie said, her eyes looking wild.

"Well whatever it is, it better be good," Bailey said.

"It can't be anything too bad out there, so how about we walk out there like were surrendering, but Bailey uses her powers to confuse them, and Mason shocks the truck. That should work, right?"

"Thirty seconds, or we're coming in there!"

I looked at Donovan, and he nodded. My mom seemed to agree too, but something crossed my mind. "Bailey, how far-"

"No time, let's go!" My mom said, pushing us out the door.

We slowly emerged from the front door, and there was four soldiers, all with guns. They raised them at us, and Bailey hesitated.

"It's okay, just go with the plan," I whispered to her.

"Shut it Powell!" One of the guys with a sniper said.

I heard Bailey take a deep breath, then she coughed loudly, making everyone look at her. Before anyone could say anything, she cocked her head to the side, like a dog would when you're talking to them. All of the soldiers lowered their weapons in confusion and looked at each other.

"Why am I on top of a van?" One of them said.

"Now!" Donovan yelled to me.

I raised both of my hands towards the van, and multiple bolts of lighting shot toward it. Screams of pain from three of them could be heard. They all collapsed, one even falling off the van with a thud.

"There was one more. I think he's in the van," Jamie said, pointing to the back of it.

We all jogged over there, and listening close, I could hear him talking to someone.

"Yes sir. The blonde boy is the conductor. Yes, Powell's boy. Who? Oh, yes sir. She reboots the mind. Thirty soldiers are closing in on them as I'm speaking, and I don't think that they'll be able to escape this one. If it doesn't work-"

"I've heard enough. Jamie, melt the door," Donovan said, and she heated up her hands and the door began to loosen, eventually making a gap wide enough to push open.

The soldier cursed loudly and I immediately shocked him. He fell to the floor, hitting his head pretty hard against the ground. I cringed.

"Okay, look at this," Jamie said, holding up a card.

I took it, and read it over carefully. It had an address, with the name "Dr. A.J. Lin" read on it.

"Who's that?" I asked, and my mom gasped.

"That's...oh no"

"Who is it?" I asked again, turning to her.

"He's the one that invented the machine. We need to leave, now." she said. "All of us."

"But what about our parents?" Donovan asked, and all of us went quiet.

"We don't really have a choice, though. It's either run or die," I said.

My mom nodded her head in thought. "What's the address on that card?"

I looked at it again. "It's in Los Angeles."

"Oh boy," Bailey said.

I swallowed. "So you think that's where you think my dad's at?"

My mother nodded. "So far, that's their only base in the United States. That's also where your dad works all the time as well."

"We live in Texas. How did he get around back and forth so much?" I asked.

"We don't have time to talk about this. We'll stop by your house to get clothes and stuff like that, okay?" She said, and everyone nodded.

"Oh lord, I can get arrested for this..."

We decided to stop by Donovan's house first, since it was the closest. He took a deep breath and stepped out of the car and walked right inside his house.

As we were waiting, I noticed a smoke cloud rising up in the distance. I didn't think much of it, since people made burn piles all the time, including me and my mom when Dad was home. I saw Bailey frown, which worried me some.

After about only five minutes, Donovan came back out with a suitcase and climbed back in the SUV.

"What did your parents say?" My mom asked with a concerned expression.

"Nothing. I just told them I was staying at your house for a week. They trust me," he said, shrugging it off.

Jamie lived on the other side of the highway, about two miles away from Bailey's house. I began to get concerned because the smoke cloud looked bigger than usual.

She looked nervous, but quickly got out of the car and went inside the house.

It wasn't until fifteen minutes that she came back, with her mom walking and looking angrily out towards our car.

"Oh no..." I mumbled.

"Who is you? What are you going?" She said in broken English. "Where are you doing with my daughter?"

She glanced at Bailey, and she immediately cocked her head at her.

"Uh, what is happen?"

"You said that you were going to let her come with us," Bailey said.

She frowned. "Sí, she may go, supongo."

She shook her head as she walked away, and Donovan opened the door for her and took her things. Jamie looked a little shaken up.

"Are you okay?" Donovan asked her.

"Yeah, my mom yells at me a lot. It's okay though. Let's just go," she said, waving her hand forward.

My mom shrugged and started to drive forwards, but I saw a familiar white van turn our direction.

I cursed. "Get down!"

We ducked our heads below the window except for Mom, who continued to drive normally.

I saw the van slow down and look at us, and my mom waved kindly as if she didn't know them.

They continued to drive off.

Once we got on Bailey's street, things began to go even further downhill. We drove up to her house, and all of us stared in a mix of shock, fear, and anger.

Bailey's house was burning down, and sirens could be heard in the distance.

She just stared, not knowing what to think or do. "Momma...dad..."
