How Ironic

"Um, I...Sorry I'm late sir" I said, barely loud enough for the person nearest me to hear.

"Name?" he said sternly.

"Tamara Holloway" I replied.

"Ah, Miss Holloway, I've heard a rather a lot about you, I'm Mr York. Please, take a seat wherever you can find one and if there's anything I can do for you, please, don't hesitate to let me know. Oh and, welcome to your new form" He smiled. What was it with nice teachers in this school? Not that I was complaining. I smiled and took the seat nearest to me on the back row. All the students continued to stare. "Everyone, hello? Can you look this way please? I'm sure Tamara doesn't wish to be stared at" He said to the class. Everyone turned round apart from the girl sat directly in front of me. She was quite small, with olive skin and short brown hair. She was one of those girls who was naturally pretty. She smiled and turned back to face the front.

When form was over I found myself relieved - I hadn't realised how nervous I must have been until now. I breathed a sigh of relief as I left my form room. Next I had English and I'd always loved English, it was my best subject and one of the few things I was good at.

Making my way to English I decided to take a quick look at the class list I'd been given - it was supposed to help me learn names but right now I was really only using it to see if Alex was in my English. He was...well this should be fun.

I was interrupted from my thoughts when someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was the girl who was sat in front of me in form. "Hi" she smiled shyly.

"Hi" I smiled back.

"I'm Annabelle" she said.

"Nice name, I'm Tamara" I told her.

"You're the girl who's friends with Alex aren't you?" She asked.

"Was" she seemed confused. "I mean, we were friends but... not anymore" I explained. Having to say that out loud made me realise how true it was. And it hurt. Maybe I didn't mean it? No, no, he put me through hell of course I mean it.

"Oh, sorry" She appologised.

"No, its ok, don't worry. Do you have English next?" I asked, changing the subject quickly.

"Yeah I do"

"Oh cool"

"We should sit together" she suggested and I took her up on the offer. Maybe making new friends wasn't as difficult as I'd worried. Now I had Taylor and Annabelle and they seemed nice, but I'm sure things would be even better once we'd got to know each other better.

Walking to English we talked about life in general and the school. She seemed like such a nice girl and I was already happy that I'd met her.

We walked into English and sat together. One thing that did shock me was that Alex never actually showed up for English and it made me wonder where he was - which annoyed me. I didn't want to think about him, but most of the time I just couldn't help it.

Next I had maths. Great. I was about as good at maths I at was at cooking - and that's seriously not good by anyone's stretch of the imagination. Annabelle wasn't in my maths, neither was Taylor but I had break afterwards and I had arranged to meet with them both at break time.

Half way through maths I had a bit of a shock. Who should walk in, but Alex.

"Sorry I'm late sir" He said in that husky voice that I was used to hearing everyday.

I hadn't realised when he walked in but his eyes were red and puffy... he'd been crying. He'd finished his conversation with our maths teacher and that's when he was told to sit down. How ironic. I'd give anyone in the world three guesses as to where the last spare seat was right now.
