He's dressed just as stupidly as usual as he answers the door in a perfectly put together suit. If I was home alone, I wouldn't bother to put anything on at all, let alone such suffocating clothes. But I guess I'm just not crazy enough.

I brush past him, a six-pack in hand as I stride towards the living room.

"Woah! What're you doing?" Lewis calls after me.

"We." I correct. "We are going to watch the game and get drunk because fuck me I need something to do."

Slumping down into the worn, faded leather, I crack open a beer and flick the TV on to the footie. I kick my shoes off and rest my feet on his coffee table, aware that he's probably about to have an aneurysm due to the mess I've just created. I'm somewhat surprised when I feel the sofa dip next to me only to see him stiffly perched on the edge. Reaching to the floor, I pick up another beer, placing it in his hands before returning my attention to the game.

"You could warn me when you're coming, y'know." Lewis says before taking a restrained sip.

"Where's the fun in that?"

"I could've been working."

"I know your schedule." I retort.

After that, he shuts up, every now and then taking sips until it's the end of the first half. We're losing 0-1 and my bladder screams at me that it's time for a toilet break, so I stand up. Though when I do, Lewis does as well, joltily.

"Don't tell me you're already drunk after only one beer." I joke, a chuckle escapes me. "I'm just going to the toilet, chill."

His teeth grit and I give him an odd look as he sits back down, this time taking a wholesome swig. He's acting weird, weirder than usual. I shake my head as I make my way across the house to his downstairs loo. It's when I'm only a few strides away that I hear a quiet thump from somewhere behind me. My eyes gloss over the surroundings, but there's not an item out of place. Assuming it must just be my imagination, I carry on with my business, flush and wash my hands.

When I step back into the corridor, Lewis is there waiting for me.

"Needed the toilet." He explains and I step aside to let him go in.

Thump!

My ears prick at the sound again, it's coming from two doors down. "What's that?" I ask, my curiosity piqued.

"Nothing, probably just the neighbour's cat snuck in again."

"I'll go take a look," I say.

"No!" He grasps my arm, halting me mid-stride, "I mean. . . you really don't have to."

"You hate cats. I'll just make sure it gets out okay then you don't have to deal with it."

He frowns and continues to protest, but I ignore him as I walk towards the door, behind which the noises were coming from. I try the handle but it's locked, nevertheless, I jiggle it and that only earns me another thump from inside followed by some sort of odd strangling sound.

"What the fuck is in here?" I ask, my tone somewhat joking as I look back at Lewis.

"Nothing. Seriously, Seth, leave it. Let's go watch the game, half-time is probably over." His hand finds it's way onto my shoulder and he tries to draw me back, but I push him off lightly and rattle the handle again. Another thud and muffled scream.

It sounds almost human. . .

"Lu, open this door or so help me god-"

He slips between me and the door, hands on my biceps as he pushes me back. He wraps an arm around my shoulders and begins to walk us away, "C'mon, just forget about it."

I shove him away harder this time so that his back slams against the wall and he has to gasp to catch his breath. Then I turn to the door again.
