Chapter one:
"Elizabeth, the guard's are coming we have to leave now!!" I looked away from my new born daughter who was only a few hours old and up at the worried face of my husband, he was scared. I looked back down at the miracle in my arms and I couldn't stop the tears. She was perfect. Ten fingers, ten toes, beautiful red hair and the cutest button nose. " I don't want to leave her Frank" My husband walked into the bedroom, sat on the bed and placed his hand on our baby, " I don't want to leave her either but she isn't safe here anymore. If the king finds her you know what will happen" we looked at each other, his blue eyes meeting my green eyes. He was right, but this was the hardest thing a mother could ever do! Shouting erupted from outside " Find them! Leave no house unturned!" The guard's were getting closer.
" Elizabeth!!" Frank looked at me with sadness and fear " I know!" I looked at my baby once more then set her on the bed. Frank wrapped my cloak around me while I slipped on my shoes. Once we were ready I picked my daughter up and hid her beneath the darkness of my cloak. I followed my husband to the back door of our cottage that lead directly into the woods, it would help us get past the guard's. Frank peered outside to make sure the coast was clear, there was no more shouting but that doesn't mean they weren't lying in wait around the corner. He looked back at me nodded and rushed out the door, I followed making sure to close it behind me, not wanting to look suspicious. We walked as fast as our legs could take us.
The further we got into the woods the slower I got, the after effects of giving birth only hours ago were starting to kick in. Something didn't feel right but I didn't want to worry frank. The only thing that mattered was making sure our little girl was safe. This part of the woods was darker than the outskirts, the tree tops were closer together blocking most of the morning sun. " How much further " I whispered. Frank looked at me and then pulled a map out of his pocket. He studied it for a few moments an then responded " It should be half a mile this way " he pointed in front of him. Worry started to set in " What if the witch was lying? What if this was all a trap " Frank stopped, turned around and grasped my free hand " We cant think like that, we have to hope that she was telling the truth, for her sake " he looked down at the sleeping angel in my arms and for a second his face softened. I looked at my husband with so much love and admiration " You would have been a fantastic father " he smiled at me " And you would have been a wonderful mother! "
The moment was ruined when a loud bang sounded in the distance, that wasn't good. We both knew that the kings guard's were close behind so we carried on trying to put as much distance between them and us as possible. If the map was correct then we weren't far from the portal but no matter how fast we walked they still stayed hot on our trail and soon enough they had manged to catch up with us " Stop in the name of the king" a voice boomed throughout the woods followed by a fire ball heading straight for us.
It missed us by inches but the tree it hit instead wasn't so lucky. " that was a warning shot, stay were you are" soft little cry's erupted from beneath my cloak, the loud noises obviously awoke her. I gently rocked her trying to calm her down. The guard's walked closer " You and your husband are required to bring your offspring to the council, concealing its existence is a punishable offence. You both will come with us now" I looked at my husband, his face showed nothing " Frank?" my voice broke as the tears fell down my cheeks. He looked at me " Its okay, take her and run, ill fight them off for as long as I can, just make sure our a little girl is safe" he started to move but I grabbed onto the sleeve of his cloak, " No, I cant do this without you!" he turned around blocking the guard's from my view and placed his hands on either side of my face " You can do this with out me and do you know why?" I shook my head " Because you are strong, confident and powerful and our little girl is going to be just like her mother one day. " I nodded to afraid to speak " When I tell you too, I need you to run as fast as you possibly can okay? Don't stop until you get there! I love you and I always will. " He kissed the top of my head and then bent down and kissed his daughter.
He turned around to face the guard's who were now a few feet away from us and ripped off his cloak. His sword was attached to his hip, the metal glistened in the sun. he grasped the handle and before I could blink he pulled it free and shouted for me to leave. I wasted no time in running making sure my baby was secured in my arms but I couldn't block out the noises of battle that grew fainter as I got further away.
Magic simmered in the air, it felt like electricity as it buzzed around me, I knew I had to be close and that's when I saw it, a slight shimmer between two trees. It vibrated in the faint light, casting a rainbow glow around the area. I slowly walked towards it feeling a strange pull almost like it called to me. My hand outstretched ready to touch it when I heard the sound of footsteps stomping through the woods, my mind instantly cleared and for a second I wondered if I should risk the life of my child sending her off into the unknown but if she stayed she would have no life at all, so I would do what every mother does. Protect my baby.
Pulling my cloak away from her, I saw that her beautiful baby blue eyes were open and she was staring up at me, my heart instantly melted at the sight. Another bang erupted throughout the woods causing the nearby birds to flee their nests. They were getting closer. My little girl cried in my arms once more scared by the loud noises so I rocked her gently and whispered sweet things to her " Don't worry little one, your going to be safe now, your farther and I made sure of it. We love you more than anything and we always will. " I kissed her on her tiny head as she cooed at me, then I wrapped her up in my cloak for extra warmth.
Pulling out the locket we had engraved before her birth I placed it around her neck. Now she will have a piece of us to protect her always. I held her in my arms one last time before I walked closer to the shimmer and ever so gently I lifted her up towards it, the strange pulling sensation appeared again but this time it wasn't for me.
She looked at me as she started to disappear her blue eyes to my green ones and then she was gone. My arms were empty, my baby was safe. "Goodbye Samantha" I whispered.
