Mike turned off the t.v. and turned to his parents. He's clearly stricken with grief just as they were but yet managed to pull himself together. Who did they lose in the disappearances? I still didn't know what separated those who were taken versus those left behind.
"Well, now we know the truth. I guess the big question is, what do we do with it?"
The momentary period of silence was quickly shattered with wales from his mother who collapsed to the floor. This was too much for her to bear. It seemed to me that Mike was the only one willing to move forward at this point.
He showed a renewed sense of determination in the face of difficulty. I already knew he would need it going forward.
"You guys remember right? I told you a couple months ago that Jordan suddenly started getting into the bible. He totally changed from the Jordan I went to highschool with."
"I thought he was just too religious. He always tried to invite me to his new church...or give some kind of explanation of the times we live in and how he saw what he claimed to be prophecy happening right in front of our eyes."
"Son-"
"So I'm asking you guys...what do we do now? Where do we go from here?"
Prophecy?! Did I hear him right? The book dad gave me was also prophetic in nature. Where did he get this information from?
His father helped his mother back to her feet. MIke did his best to get through to the two.
"I don't want to talk about this right now..."
"Mom! Then when will we talk about this?! If this is all true, then it's basically the end of the world here."
"Michael, just give your mother some time to think about this. It's all...it's all too much for us to take in right now."
His dad simply gave him a pat on the shoulder, leaving him alone in the room.
What would they do now in this world that's been turned upside down?
"Agh!"
The sound of something shattering startled me. I turned around to see Mike leave the room. On the floor was the remote, pieces of it scattered on the ground like a jig-saw puzzle.
I couldn't blame him for his reaction, at least he knew what was going on, but would his parents readily receive the truth?
The few rays of sunlight slowly disappeared as I was left in the darkness.

Several days later, they came. They claimed to be behind the disappearances. They came in the name of peace, the common good, and the advancement of humanity. They offered humanity technology and the means to go beyond human limitations in order to cope with this new world.
The world readily embraced them because they rejected the truth, they were given over to a strong delusion. They readily embraced the lie that comforted them in their time of sorrow and desperation. Humanity needed answers, anything, and they provided them what they longed for.
Who are these mysterious otherworldly beings who claim to be the forefathers of life on earth?
————
How much time has passed since I've been dreaming? How much longer would I be dreaming for? The scene changed and I found myself in another room. This wasn't Mike's living room. Clothes and books were scattered to the ground almost as if a storm came through.
