"I've never loved someone more in my life," I thought as I was writing another letter to send to Jah. As stupid as it sounds to constantly write him when I can simply call, I made a promise. That promise was to write to him all the time. I stop writing and admire the letter. A grin spreads across my face just thinking about how wonderful it'll feel to have him back in my arms again within a few months.
My Dearest Baby,
I know I say this all the time, but not being able to see you really sucks. All the memories we've made don't keep flashing back in my mind and ain't making no better. I want to call you and hear you voice but I can't do that either. I can't have my nosey family listening in on our "talks. "
"You've never loved who so much in your life?" My brother, Samuel, said as he so rudely entered my room. I quickly hide the note that I had been working on for Jahseh under some miscellaneous papers.
"No one. Get out of my room, Sam. You ain't got no business in here. "I spat.
He scoffs. "Let me see.." he says as he makes my way towards the desk in my room. "What do we have where?" He snatches the letter from under the papers and begins to read it.
A goofy grin appears on his face as he reads.
"Oooh, so you ain't want nobody knowing about your little girlfriend back in Jacksonville, huh?" Sam coos. I was relieved that he thought this letter was addressed to a girl and not a boy. I didn't want him blabbing about the letter being to Jahseh and not a girl. My family has made it clear how they feel about homos. Homos ain't welcome round here. The only person who wouldn't care is my sister Sarah. She's so nice and loving that she could love anyone from any walk of life.
I snatch the letter back from Sam.
"I said get out!" I yell as he begins to laugh so hard that he couldn't breathe. My mama appears in my door way with a not so pleased expression.
"Boy stop all that yelling in my house." Mama
says which makes Sam laugh harder." And Sam? Stop laughing like a damn lunatic 'fore somebody put 'yo ass in the crazy house," she joked. "It's time for supper. Go get washed up. "
I nods as she walks away and Sam follows her( but only after taunting me). I quickly finish up my letter
and place it in an envelope and prep it with a stamp for mailing later. After washing up in the bathroom, I go to the kitchen where the rest of my family was waiting."About time you came in here. Im starving!" Sarah exclaims as she begins to fix her a plate. My mom scolds her and she stops.
"We gotta say grace girl. You know this. "My Dad says.
"Sorry. Through the teeth, past the gums, look out stomach, here it comes. Thank you Lord for this food. Amen. "Sarah quickly says. We all laugh at her as we begin to fix our food.
"What took you so long anyway, Christopher?" Mama asks. Before I could answer, Sam decided to answer for me.
"He was writing letter to his girlfriend back in Jacksonville. "Sam says rather loudly. Mama looks at me.
"This true Christopher? You gotta girl back home?" She grins.
"No I don—"
