"Who would do such a thing to my baby? It's like they were targeting him!" My mother cried. My father comforted her as Chris held my hand as if he wasn't responsible for this. It was two days after he had attacked me in the alley and my mom acts as if it were the night it happened.

Right now we were all in my hospital room. My face was swollen and I had two fractured ribs. The officer took note of this. Yes, an officer is here because my mother wanted to press charges. We were debating about it got a long time but she wants for whoever did this to me (Chris, but she doesn't know) to suffer. I don't know how that's going to work out because for one we're black, and two, I'm gay.

"Ma'am can I speak with you and your husband outside for a moment?" The officer spoke up. My parents obliged and did as he asked. That left Chris and I.

"Remember what we talked about, right? Just in case?" Chris questions. I nod.

"You weren't with me when this happened. You were still at the theater and I walked off without you. "I recited.

"Good. I don't want this getting back to me, Jah."

"It won't. Promise. "I say emotionless. He looks me in the eyes and smiles. As much as I didn't want to, I smiled back. Mainly because I don't want him to hurt me again.

"You should go before Johnny gets here. If he sees you here he'll fight you again. "

Chris scoffs. "I'm not worried about him fighting me again. Last time I wasn't ready for that shit. This time I'm ready for his ass. You think I'm scared of him or something?"

You did just assault me when I wasn't with him. "No. "

"I don't know why you're still thinking of him. You're not even with him anymore. He just doesn't know that yet. "

"I never told you I was leaving him for you. You just assumed that." I voice. Chris chuckles and shakes his head.

"Yeah, Whatever. "

My parents come back in with the officer. My mom had stopped crying and my dad looked relieved.

"You do understand what happened to you was serious, huh?" The officer asks.

"Yeah. "

"And you don't want to press charges, but your mom does?"

"Yes sir. I don't want it to happen to me again if I do decide to press charges. "I answer. The officer gives me a look.

"So what you're telling me is that you know who did this to you?"

I looked confused. "Huh?"

"I can tell that you are protecting whoever did this, and if that's the case, you're as big as the problem as they are. "

You're one hundred percent correct. "I don't know who did this. Im serious. "

His eyes dart to Chris. Chris mean mugs him and sits back in the chair beside my bed. I sigh.

"I honestly don't know who did it. I just don't want it to happen to me again if I press charges. You can only keep that person locked away for so long. "

The officer nods. "That's understandable being that it very well could be someone that's close to you. If that's all you folks need to today, then I'll be on my way."
