To be Loved

Eyes closed,

The two people you love most...

One does the unforgivable to the other.

Who do you choose?

Til that point,

Love was love,

Equal.

No one person would ever be

Higher than the others.

Until the words spoken,

Cannot be unspoken,

A realized truth.

It meant nothing

To the one who was hurt the most.

Beyond caring,

She shrugged...

A careless tilt to her head.

And that was the tragedy of it.

Not to care

About something once so important,

It blotted out the sun and stars

In her own sky.

Gone was the faith,

The love.

Just apathy

Indifference.

A loss of trust,

Her lifeless eyes that broke your heart,

Forgiveness?

You had none to spare

Not for he who hurt her.

You wanted blood,

The feel of his guts,

The taste of his fear.

Predatory and deadly

Claws sharpening in the moonlight

A nightmarish shadow of yourself.

While she stood idly by,

As you bayed and howled,

Hungering for blood.

She knew this was more than she deserved.

This was not just her.

This was about you,

And him,

This was just the snapping of the cord.

A pull one too many on an already stretched thread.

The straw on the camel's back,

The rock in the sinking boat,

The end in a series of bad endings.

She whispered softly that it was your choice.

But there was no choice.

Not in this.

Not for you.

As soon as the words left her lips.

You had only one course open.

To take revenge upon him,

To destroy and hurt,

To punish him.

He can't get away with this,

You said,

He won't get away with this

You said.

And I knew he wouldn't,

Because

You loved me more.
