We Two, Against Who?

You were all sharp edges,

Razor blades and screams

Wrapped up in the blackest of eyes.

Everyone was afraid of you.

That feral grin,

The smell of dirt and grime,

The way you looked like you didn't care

About any of it.

I was afraid too

But your hair...

It was the same color as mine.

And you were standing all alone.

I walked over to you,

My heart screaming at me to turn back

I stuck out my hand.

And told you my name.

The other kids looked on in horror.

The teachers held their breath

You turned that grin on me

And we were friends

But that was our beginning,

You and me

Against a world

That would never understand

Your feral grin,

My bright eyes,

Our hands intertwined

Young love, they said...

But that wasn't it.

We were the storm,

The other children fled from us,

Our otherness

Our intensity

Your intensity

We were us

That was all there was to understand

Where you began

Where I ended

With a smile and a look

I knew your heart

And you knew mine

You always knew

You saw

You and Me
