Song: Skateboard p (instrumental) Elijah Who (or Sayso!)
(Benny's P.O.V)
To say that I didn't sleep a wink last night would have been an understatement. I tossed and turned all night long. ' I gotta find the source of the leak' I thought. My Grandma barged into my room.
"Up and at'em magic boy," She said ripping the blanket off of me.
" Five more minutes Gran-,"
" Oh don't you 'five more minutes' me young man. I need you to take me to my doctor's appointment and then to the market, " she said, "And expect you to be showered, dressed and ready to go in five minutes."
I reluctantly got up and got ready for the day. Despite knowing the family secret, my grandma lives a life a caution and secrecy. Meaning I have no idea what she does on her free time so to say that this outing of ours is rare would be an understatement.
"What's on your mind, Ben?"
"Huh?," I was pulled from my train of thought "Oh nothing just thinking that's all."
"Looks like your thinking yourself to an early grave," She chuckled " But really what's on your mind. Maybe I can help"
I sighed. "You know that threat that I told you about? Well, the situation is getting more and more difficult. I am not sure how to keep everyone safe anymore."
"It's okay to not know whatever outcome could or would be," She said, " That's parenting 101 but also life 101." She ruffled my hair."All you should be worried about right now is school. Especially exams."
"Ugh don't remind me" we both chuckled. It was nice spending time again with my grandma. We used to send a lot of time together but then the accident happened which made her a bit more reserved.
"Speaking of exams you don't have one today right?" She asked
"Not today, I have three coming up though. I am not looking forward to those at all" I grimaced. To be honest, talking to her about everything else and not pretend like the world was ending was kind of nice...soothing actually.
We went to her appointment which was not completely gross as she made it out to be.
After her appointment, we went to the farmers market to pick up some fresh food and potion supplies.
"Um, gran? Do you know where one could um acquire some paranormal truth serum?"
My grandma stiffened slightly "And why would you need something like that?" She asked cautiously.
"Well, last night my spellbook light up. When I opened it, the pages flipped to a paranormal truth serum but it takes a week to brew and I kind of need it now."
"Well," she said slowly, " I know a place. However, for the best results you should brew it yourself because the side effects are horrid" she shuddered.
" I guess I could brew it myself but I don't think I have enough ingredients for it."
"Enough ingredients for what?" a familiar voice asked
"Rory? Is that you?" I was baffled. I haven't seen Rory since we ran into R.E.V " Where have you been?"
"Oh, you know... I've been here and there" he said sheepishly "Hey listen sorry for running off like that when we ran into those scary vamps."
"It's okay I probably would have done the same," I said.
"Hey so um I'm in a kind of a bind right now and I was wondering if you could help me. I ran into E last night and he said no...But I mean we are friends... right?"
"Of course, I'll help in any way-"
"No."
I was cut off by my grandma. This was the first time I have ever seen her be harsh.
"Gran come one he's my friend"
"The answer is no. You and Ethan made a deal not to get involved anymore unless absolutely necessary"
"But gran-"
"My decision is final... I'm really sorry I wish we could help Rory."
"Yeah no, I get it. I got myself into this mess and I should get myself out. Thanks anyway"
I watched as my old friend walked away.
"Why would you say no? He is my friend" I tried to keep my anger from escaping.
"Trust me it's for the best that you don't get involved. You have enough on your plate already," She explained. "You can't be everyone's hero because you'll burn yourself out."
"You're right...I guess" I grumbled.
As much as I didn't want to believe my grandma she was right I have too much already to handle and I wouldn't be helpful to anyone.
"Now let's get those ingredients" She hooked my arm and whisked me through the farmers market.
