For the next few days things went really smoothly. Surprisingly, Bucky stayed and did his best try and remember, with Steve by his side at all times. He hadn't remembered much more though, somehow they needed to unlock the barrier that seemed to be stopping Bucky from remembering.
He'd been doing very well though. He'd gone from being the most feared assassin in history to being someone who was easy to cooperate with and be around. It was like he was transforming back into his old self without noticing. Occasionally he would lose it and put a fist through a wall or have to leave for a few hours before going back to the base. At those times, being around people like them just didn't feel natural because of who he had been turned into, but he desperately wanted to remember who he was.
Bucky's POV
I played with the dog tags in my hands. My name and other details were printed on them. After Jayne had given them to me and I was on the lose, I'd taken it upon myself to clean them because they were extremely unreadable.
I was sitting in a room by myself, in the dark. I'd just had an episode and wanted to be alone before I hurt someone. They all understood and didn't dare to bother me. I sighed and put the tags back in my pocket then got out a photo that Steve had given to me. Actually there was two; one of me and him and another one of me and Jayne. I gabbed the one of me and Jayne and studied it. She had her arms wrapped around my waist and her head on my chest. I held her close to myself and must've been tickling her because she was laughing a lot. I was dressed in my uniform and she had a blue dress on, her blonde hair was done nicely and she had perfect makeup on. She was so...beautiful.
"Jayne." I said to myself.
Her name sounded familiar to me now, like Steve's did. Steve told me about what happened to Jayne when she was captured and experimented on. He said her hair had turned brown and she got these amazing fire powers.
"Jayne." I said again.
Jayne? Jayne...Jayne. Jayne!
I had a sudden flashback about spending my last night with Jayne before I was shipped to London. I told her that I loved her...
Before I knew it the flashback was over and I was on my hand and knees, trying to steady by breathing. My heart seemed to ache every time I thought about her. What is it about you that makes me feel like this?
I looked back at the picture of me and Jayne which I must've thrown as I had the flashback. I stared at it and I got this strange feeling - as if I felt like I know her, and Steve. It's hard to explain the way I felt. I quickly got up and ran to the lab so Dr Banner and Dr Richards could save the memories that I was having. I sprinted past numinous rooms and forcefully pushed the door open when I got to the lab. I met two very surprised people.
"Bucky? Are you ok?" Dr Banner asked me with a worried expression.
"I remembered some things." I replied through short gasps for air.
They immediately got to work. Dr Richards laid me down on the hospital bed while Dr Banner attached cords and other machines to my head. They waited for a few beeping sounds to stop before they sat back and let the machines do their jobs. I'd been injected with anaesthetic so I soon fell asleep.
