As soon as we entered the main hall, an explosion of colors surrounded us, along with plenty of shouting. I was surprised by the little amount of time it took the guards and doctors to get to us; in a matter of seconds, we were surrounded by them. Although make no mistake, that was no problem to us. We clearly had the advantage in strength, not to mention we came without fearing to kill whilst they wanted us alive to conduct more experiments. They can't do that if we're dead, can they?
Already, Jeff had hacked at least five down and don't even get me started on Laughing Jack's kills. The others were keeping up as well and I too swung my scythe without pity, not even blinking as it slit through the human flesh, blood splattering everywhere. I brought my scythe down in a diagonal motion, slashing the man before me from the right shoulder down to the left hip and jumping at the one behind him as his body fell to the ground. This one, I decapitated and pushed off from his collapsing corps to land back at Jeff's side. We fought back to back, covering each other's weaknesses and enhancing each other's strengths. I smiled and licked the blood off my cheek, laughing out loud at our perfect co-ordination. We're family alright.
We gradually found ourselves advancing through the enemy flock, spreading death through as we went. Yet more and more guards came our way, relentlessly attacking us and making it seem as though we weren't really getting anywhere. And more and more they came, each armed to the teeth with firearms, shooting at us, aiming for our limbs more than anything else in fear of hitting our one weak spot; the head. It goes without saying that we dodged effortlessly yet it still made it hard to truly attack. So we redoubled our power and speed, quickly slashing at the humans' vital points to give them the quickest death possible. Not out of pity, no, we just needed to get through them quicker so that we could have a little time to recover and space to fight Zalgo, who would undoubtedly come any second now.
And he did.
My fingers gripped at the handle of my scythe, turning the joints almost white as I clenched my teeth. My heart beat accelerated and became louder as a churning in my stomach warned me of his approach. Fierce determination mixed with a raising adrenaline rush, making me feel slightly uneasy on my feat due to the emotion that was threaded within it; fear. And I know the others felt it too.
The air became thick with tension as the enemy soldiers in front of us respectfully parted to let him pass. His pace was agonisingly slow, each step calculated and resonating like a thousand gunshots in the silent building. My gaze travelled up to his face as my throat turned dry and my hands moist. He looked down on us with those demonic eyes and his signature twisted smirk. His sharp teeth were only aggravated by the rotting jet black gums that anchored them to his jaws, they themselves looking like they were taken from a corps that had been in hell for a good century. For the first time since my original decision, I almost regretted coming along to this mission. All alerts were going off in my head, every instinct desperately screaming at me to run away. It took all my willpower to stay in place despite my natural stupidly brave personality.
He stared down at my frozen form, sending an involuntary shiver down my spine. Those burning ruby red eyes glared through me to my very soul, making even my very aura flicker in fear.
And that was it.
That was when it hit me.
When it really hit me.
I'm gonna die, aren't I.My eyes widened as I began to sweat profoundly, the hair on my body sticking up and sending goosebumps throughout me. My mind desperately went searching for something, anything. It roamed around, going through Jack's conscience (to which he visibly jumped yet I ignored it), lingering through every crevasse of my own and then going to the bit where Ame was.
