His early morning attitude, you have to drag him out of bed

Only frosted flakes will do

He gets that from me, he gets that from me

The light flipped on in the space-themed decorated bedroom, feline eyes lingering on the form curled in blue sheets. Crossing the room, Jennie climbed upon the mattress and moved to wrap her arm around a bundled form.

"Curtis Alexander," Jennie whispered as she nuzzled her nose against the curls poking from the top of the wrapped sheets. "Buddy, time to get up. Your dog is waiting for his morning walk."

"M'not ready to get up."

"It's almost eleven, bud," Jennie chuckled before she sighed as her seven-year-old son shifted in his bed so he could turn and bury his face against her chest. "Come on, let's take Cloud to the park. We can toss the ball around."

"It's too early." Curtis whined as he snuggled his head under Jennie's chin, pushing his small arms from the rumpled sheets as he reached to twist his fists in his mother's shirt. "I wanna sleep for a little while longer."

"We have things to do today, kiddo." Jennie reminded him before she was finally faced with Curtis' pouting face. "I know you want to sleep, and tomorrow you can sleep your day away, but today we have stuff planned."

"Fine." Curtis sighed, rolling his eyes.

"Cute." Jennie smiled as she dropped a kiss to his forehead before standing from the mattress and grabbing the edge of her son's bedspread, yanking it from his body. "Now, get your butt out of bed and get dressed."

"Why is life so cruel?" Curtis exclaimed as he rolled onto his back, spreading his limbs out as he stared up at the ceiling. "Is it too much to ask for my mother to leave me alone to sleep my Saturday away?"

"Gosh, always one for dramatics," Jennie said with a roll of her eyes as she moved towards his drawers and pulled out a t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts. "Once again, get out of bed and get dressed. I'll get your breakfast ready."

"Frosted Flakes?" Curtis demanded as he sat up.

"What else?" Jennie scoffed.

Shooting the seven-year-old a wink, Jennie quietly left the room and made her way back into the kitchen where their Golden Retriever glanced up from his food bowl and allowed his tongue to roll from his mouth.

"He's up, just not dressed." Jennie sighed watching as Cloud released a small huff before dropping his head to continue eating. "That's what I'm saying, boy. You know how he is on the weekends, so lazy."

Jennie smiled to herself as she moved to grab two bowls from the cabinet as she filled them both with cereal and slid one across the counter before adding milk to her own bowl, the brunette spooning a bite into her mouth.

Ten minutes passed before Jennie was greeted with the sight of her son trudging into the kitchen, the boy releasing a heavy sigh as he dropped onto a stool and reached out for the milk with a lazy swipe of his arm.

"This is why you shouldn't stay up late playing video games," Jennie smirked, her words muffled by her bite of cereal. "I tried to tell you, but you never listen to me and this is what happens. You should try listening to your mother."

"Eh." Curtis shrugged as he took a large bite of his cereal.

Smiling, Jennie shook her head as she finished off her breakfast before turning to wash her bowl out as Curtis slowly ate his before sliding off the stool and crossing the room to offer his bowl to his mother.
