The first thing Arthit had said when they reached Kongpob’s dorm was, “Am I going to die?”

They had decided to head back to Kongpob’s room – their temporary hideout, once they learned the severity of the situation. Kongpob had been careless; he thought he had made the necessary precautions, and was careful enough not to let Arthit on the hands of the other pack, but clearly his preparations wasn’t enough.

The Rung pack had been circulating over the middle of the town – a supposedly neutral zone where no werewolf pack claims, and this had put warning signs to all the packs surrounding the said zone.

It wasn’t uncommon for packs to initiate their own scouting activities, but the neutral zone was a place where no underworld laws touch, so when the news that some of the members of the Rung pack had been scouting the area, Kongpob had decided to investigate.

He had watched Arthit from the shadows from the supplies shop the human worked at. Kongpob had no idea why the Rung pack would be interested in a human like Arthit; at first he thought that the rivaling pack wanted something to do with the supplies the shop delivers, but after learning that it was Arthit that they want, Kongpob took it upon himself to protect the human.

And since the neutral zone was essentially a lawless part of the city, the attack that happened earlier by the Rung’s had been an act of aggression and was punishable by the supernatural council’s laws.

But Kongpob could worry about that later. His focus was on Arthit who was lying on his bed, panting from the exhaustion of running for his life.

“What do we do?” Beside him stood Aim, his bestfriend since childhood.

“Am I going to die?” Arthit had reiterated.

Kongpob chewed his lips. A bite from a beta werewolf was dangerous – far more dangerous from that of an Alpha, so he was put in a dilemma.

“Will you bite him, P’Kongopb?” Dae scrunched his brows. “It will be a matter of time before he starts to transform.”

Unlike a bite from an Alpha that could potentially save lives, a bite from a beta can only mean one of two things: death or get turned into a feral werewolf with no consciousness.

“I can’t just give him the bite, Dae,” he said softly.

There’s a rule in the werewolf community about turning humans into werewolves; firstly, it must be wanted and not forced, and second, if an emergency presents itself, it must be asked.

“He’s going to die, Kong,” Aim paced around the room. They have applied the necessary first aid already, but the bite was affecting Arthit’s body already.

They were snapped from their mulling when Arthit started convulsing on his bed. They all rushed to his side, Kongpob scanning Arthit’s body worriedly.

He failed to protect the human when he had decided to, and now Arthit had been bitten and was on the verge of dying.

    He failed as an Alpha.

“Kongpob,” Arthit sputtered black goo from his mouth which meant that the bite was already progressing. If Kongpob doesn’t act fast, Arthti will die in a minute or two.

“I don’t want to die yet,” there were tears on Arthit’s eyes, and Kongpob couldn’t help but sympathize.

On his side, Dae turned his back and retreated silently.

From there, Kongpob had decided to offer his bite.

“Do you want to live, Arthit?”

Arthit clutched on his arms, looking straight to his eyes with determination. The human probably was in a state of shock and confusion, and Kongpob was taking that into consideration, but in terms of saving the human, he would not hesitate even further.

“Do you want to live, Arthit?” he asked again.

This time, Arthit let out a small nod, a confirmation Kongpob needed.

There was a part inside of him that wanted to bite Arthit immediately since that first time he had met the human personally, but Kongpob had reined that feeling in.

Now, that pull was stronger; the wolf inside getting anxious with every second that passed by, wanting to sink his teeth into Arthit’s flesh.

Kongpob lifted Arthit’s left hand, running his thumb on the human’s wrist. He could hear Arthit’s heart frantically beating, so with a decision, Kongpob sank his fangs into Arthit’s wrist.

Normally, an Alpha’s bite was offered on the neck of those who wanted it, but for some reason, the wolf inside Kongpob wanted Arthit’s wrist.

He can feel the tense air inside his room. Kongpob was aware of the anxiety his pack mates were having, but he ignored that in favor of eliminating the beta’s essence circulating inside Arthit’s body.

When Kongpob was satisfied with his work, he slowly pulled away, and watched as Arthit fell into a deep sleep.

He focused his hearing on Arthit’s heartbeat. It seemed to be stabilizing, so he sighed in relief. If the bite took in then when Arthit wakes up he’ll be one of them, if the body rejected the bite then Arthit will die.

Kongopb stood up silently, looking at his pack mates with concern. Aim puts his hand on his shoulders, giving him a small smile.

    “You’ll do well, Kong.”

He looked at Arthit’s sleeping form once again, knowing fully of the responsibility lying on his shoulders together with this situation. Arthit’s life will be changed forever when he wakes up, and Kongopb will make sure that Arthit will not regretting wanting to live.
