I wouldn't say I'm much of a morning person, seeing how I love sleeping in until the early afternoon hours; but today I was up at first light. I was in a great mood which was weird since I was disappointed last night but everything seemed peaceful and nothing was wrong.
That's what I would like to say however the reality was that I rolled myself out of bed with a killer headache as someone pounded away at the door downstairs. I don't have the slightest clue who would be crazy enough to be up at seven in the morning but they had better be dying.
As I neared the door I heard Bryan topple out of bed upstairs followed by noises of shuffling. I didn't bother to glance through the peephole, probably because I was an idiot and hadn't learned my lesson in the past. As soon as the door swung open I immediately tried to slam it shut but was stopped by a steady hand and a foot wedge in the door.
"Open the door mijo."
"Sorry, nobody is home! Try again later, beeeeep."
"Forrest-"
"Leave a message!"
"Callum." I halted my attempt to shut the door and frowned as I peered around at the man on the other side.
"Good morning to you as well," he said as he hoisted a child that looked barely two years old higher onto his hip. Bryan had finally made his way downstairs and threw an arm over my shoulder as he leaned on my from behind.
"Don't you think you're a bit too old to have another kid there pops?"
My father gave me a look, he didn't even have to say anything for me to know what he was thinking.
"Seriously?"
I raised a brow in return, daring him to prove me wrong.
"She's your niece, dipshit." Dominic shuffled out of the kitchen and over to the living room where he flopped on the couch. My head snapped to the child on my father's hip and I stared in disbelief at her. She had lightly tanned skin and a head full of loose little brown curls; and when she turned those beautiful blue eyes towards me, I felt my heart melt.
My emotions couldn't seem to settle on one as I stared at my late brother's daughter."Shit, her mom must've been a looker." I elbowed Bryan with a scowl on my face, knocking the wind out of him. My father didn't look too impressed either as he passed Farren over to me.
"I see you've gotten the trait of picking unfavorable men just like your sisters," my father sighed. I opened my mouth to invite him in but he held up a hand and shook his head.
"I've got a few meetings," he explained. He gave me a knowing look before he turned toward his sleek black Porsche, leaving me to stare after him in confusion. He paused as he opened the door and glanced back at me.
"I'll be in touch, the next time we meet we'll discuss handing the business over to you and your... husband?"
"No."
"Yes."
Bryan and I glared at each other in disbelief. What in the hell did he mean yes?
Dominic busted out laughing behind us and cheerfully began singing "Bryan and Callum, sitting in a tree!"
Everyone rolled their eyes as Farren began to clap along to his horrible singing. My father made a smart decision to leave without a further goodbye while Adrian went back to his room, leaving Bryan hanging over me. And me?
Seems I had another child to watch added to my list.
A/N: hey guys, sorry for being AWOL. My old computer just took a shit so I had been writing chapters on my phone. I've gotten a replacement though so I'm transferring all the chapters to there to start editing and updating. I apologize for the lengthy process, since work is also a factor I've had to juggle a few things around. As always, thank you for being patient and continuing to read my works <3
