"It worked!" a woman said. In her hand was a small knife. She had knicked the tip of her finger purposefully and smiled as a black liquid flowed from under her skin. "Now..." She held up a chip. "For a change."
"Mama," a little girl's voice sounded.
The woman to see her daughter walking into the lab, trying not to fall over on her wobbly legs.
"Meredith," the woman said with a smile before picking her up. "Remember what I was telling you? About the blood?"
"Did you do it Mommy?" the four-year-old asked.
"I did," the woman told her. "Now I am going to give you a shot okay? I need you to hold still."

"You called?" a man walked into the lab. He was a guard, equipped with a vest and a rifle. "Look I can't stay long. They will suspect something."
"I know," the woman said with a sigh. "I'm sorry it went this way. I never meant for any of this to happen..."
"Becca, it is not your fault," the man said sadly. "You know that."
"It is my fault. And now they are coming for me." She turned her back to him and looked out the window at Earth. "I need you to take Meredith."
"What?" the man asked, his eyes widening.
"I'm leaving. I'm going to run to Earth." She turned back around. "I can't take Meredith with me. That's no life for a child."
"Becca, think about this," the guard pleaded. He put his hands on Meredith's shoulders as the girl smiled at him. "You can't leave!"
"Celina, I have to. This is my fault! I have to help the people down there." She frowned. "I made some serum to give whoever is still alive down there. I have to try and save them." She closed her eyes. "Plus they want to destroy everything I've done."
"They are coming for you. When the Ark comes together, you won't be able to stop them. Just turn yourself in."
"You know I can't," Becca told him. "Please take care of Meredith for me. I have given her my serum. They can never know about her blood. Please! You have to protect her, Celina!"
The man looked at the young girl. "Of course I will but Becca..."
"Go! Hurry before they come for me." Becca exclaimed. "Give her a good life! Please, for me." She knelt down in front of her daughter. "Meredith, I will always love you." She reached around the girl's neck and clipped a necklace on her. It was an infinity sign on a metal chain. "You carry something special in your blood. Let it protect you." Becca stood back up and gave the man a sad look. "Goodbye, Celina. Take care of my daughter."
She turned her back to him again and squeezed her eyes shut as Celina dragged away a screaming Meredith.
