What did happen last night? It was a question that kept playing in Pete’s head. A buzzing burning question at that. As hard as he tried to recover last night's events he would draw a blank. He’d probably go to Andy later and ask him since he knew that Andy was the only one in that house who wouldn't dare get hammered on a school night. Or at any time. The desk was uncomfterble and his banging headache didn't make this situation better. By now he had hoped he’d be better at this whole ‘hungover at school’ thing. He guessed he thought wrong. “Pete.” Pestered Joe who was sitting behind him and for some god damn reason, would not stop poking him.“What?”
“How was last night man?” Joe gave him a smug grin.
“I honestly can’t remember, did I do anything stupid.”“You do stupid things even when you're a sober dude.”
That was fair, “What I do?”
Joe wasn’t much help though. All he did was laugh, “I’d ask Patrick.”
He scrunched his eyebrows together. Patrick and him where in a fight at the moment so they weren't really on speaking terms. Now that he thought about it this was their longest fight. Usually, it's a couple of hours, longest, days. But this has been going on for three weeks now and he can't even remember why they were fighting. Oh no. Did he yell at him last night? He was never good at controlling his temper and even worse when alcohol was involved. “I wasn’t mean to him was I?”
“What? No, you wouldn't be here if you were mean to him. Andy would have kicked the shit out of you.”
He nodded, keeping that in mind for the future. “Can’t you just tell me?”
“I could but where would the fun in that be?”
“My saintly could be saved.”
“Is that still even there?
“Not after this conversation it's not.”
Joe just laughed and to Pete’s annoyances, dropped the topic completely.
------
After the bell rang, Pete began going through conversation starters in his head. Patrick was usually the one who started their conversation back up again after a fight. He was fine with doing it but if Patrick wasn't ready- He shrugged it off. He would just have to deal with it. There was a hallway that was closed off because the room that leads to it was getting redone, Patrick always went there after the fifth period so he knew where to find him.
Sure enough, Patrick had his back was pushed against the wall with his phone in his hand and his earbuds in. Pete let himself slide down the wall next to him. The earphones were quickly taken out and his attention focused on the plus one that invited himself. “Pete.”
“Why are we mad at each other again?”
“What?”
“I mean I don’t remember there even being an argument. Did I say something or do something?”
Patrick just laughed, the corners of his eyes crinkled. “No, I didn't even know we were in a fight. We just stopped talking, I honestly just thought you were done being friends with me. Until last night.”
“What happened last night?” He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know.
“You don’t remember?” Patrick knew he wouldn’t so what was the point of asking.“I never do after one of Urie’s parties, I'm honestly surprised you were even there.”
Patrick laughed again, “I wasn’t.”
Pete gave a confused glance at him.
“You showed up at my house at one in the morning, claiming that you were in love with me and you weren't leaving until you got an answer.”
His face turned red, “Uh...what was your answer?”
“I couldn't get a word in, I was laughing so hard.” His laughter started up again, “It was cute though after I got you to stop yelling. Then eventually you calmed down and Andy and Joe came to pick you up.”
“That’s it?”“That's it.” He smiled, “If you ever want that answer, you’ll have to take me to dinner first.”
