"You alright dad?"
Another question we usually use rhetorically...
I gave him an ice pack for the heachache he was having. After having his eardrums blown out from that shot near the head dad wasn't really into chit chat at the moment, so I let him sit and sip coffee. Even that bothered him a little. Moving his jaws hurt like... well I don't know how hell hurts as people say but I heard that non-existent place hurts.
We had arrived back at base a few hours earlier and dad had to go into the med bay for checkup. All soldiers who were POWs or were held for a long time under enemy control were checked for physical and mental damage as well as for any trackers and other things before they retured to home base.
Right now dad was in a soundproof area where people who needed serious silence or a moment to themselves were allowed to go.
The squad were also having a bit of R&R while the techies and corporals checked out their carry-on luggage.
I left dad to rest a while before heading to the area where they were checking out the suit that the invisible soldier was wearing. The man inside had been taken out and questioned elsewhere.
I had taken off my exo earlier and medics had my help to get him out of his suit while unconscious. It was amusing to see dad clinging onto a part of the suit just on reflex. He really was attached to it since it gave him his freedom of movement back.
"What have we brought home with us?"
I was as curious as the rest of the people in the room. We were all standing around a heavy duty steel table that was usually used for maintaining heavy arms such as miniguns and rocket launchers. I know that because dad opened up a minigun for maintenance here and showed how it worked to me.
"We're still trying to figure it out ourselves. Just check this out."
One of the technicians slipped his arm into the suit, which was partially visible now, but still looked like a blur. He slowly lifted his hand off the table and raised it in the air and the hand immediately shifted color and pattern to suit first the area above the table... then his overalls and face, then the pattern of the ceiling.
"We have a suit too, but it's nothing like this. Ours requires fibre optics and electronic controls, whereas this one has absolutely nothing. Plus when you try it on it feels-
"Shark skin?" I seemed to know it before they did. Dad's Mark II suit was made out of the same amazing material.
The tech looked at me like I was someone new altogether.
"How did you know about that?"
I smiled a boy's smile, "Because I'm using one just like that."

Showing off most of the time is safe and repercussion-free... this time I had a summons with my dad. We sat at two chairs along a long green table with my exo on the table to my left and the captured invisible-exo on the right which ww all ,agreed non. In front of us were 5 members of some kinda committee which handled various matters. Two of them had tablets and two had the same tie. One had a suit case at the end of the table. One had a cup of coffee which he sipped so gingerly I thought there was battery acid in it.
