Metropolis Hospital
5:56a.m.

[DAMIAN'S POV]

I hopped in a Toyota Highlander... a vehicle that wasn't bat related and drove myself over to Metropolis Hospital. It took me at least fifteen minutes to arrive due to the morning traffic. Judging from the sky, the light drizzle will soon change into a storm...
I spotted an empty parking spot that was just a few steps away from the hospital's entrance and slot my car in it.. I stepped out of the car and open an umbrella right above my head... The sound of rustling trees, thunder crashing, rushing wind and millions of rain droplets falling onto the umbrella filled my ears... I began walking towards the hospital's entrance.. stepping on the wet road and filled puddles.. While walking, I felt the chilly breeze passing through my face... It was quite a relief that I brought along a jacket with me.. If it's really cold out here, I can't imagine how cold will it be in the hospital...
The automatic sliding doors opened and I walked through it.. The smell of iodoform and bright orange lights filled the hospital's freezing atmosphere. I pulled my umbrella closed and kept it together with the other umbrellas in an umbrella stand.. I took a glance around the area... There were two or three people sleeping in the waiting area, nurses and doctors walking in and out from medical rooms and some patients roaming around the hospital's lobby.... I approached the reception, where a nurse with blonde hair and grey blue eyes, is preoccupied with the computer sitting infront of her.

Me: Excuse me....

The nurse took four seconds to notice my call.. She paused whatever she was doing in the computer and lift her head to face me, giving me a perky expression.

Nurse: Yes young man.. How can I help you?

Me: I'd like to visit a patient... His name is Jonathan Kent..

Nurse: Oh... Our Kryptonian patient... Sure thing... Let me just--

The nurse was cut off when she noticed a hand was on her shoulder. I looked up to see a familiar face.. It was the same black nurse who we spoke to yesterday..

Nurse: I'll handle this Liz...

Liz: Oh, alright then, he's all yours Monica.

So the nurse, Monica... lift her head up to look at me. Her dark curly hair tied in a bun. She gave me a smile and gestured to a bronze wooden door next to her.

Monica: Come..

She held the door opened and I walked through it.. She walked pass me and I followed her.

Monica: I'm Monica Jones by the way... I'm in charge of Jonathan till he gets better... (turned around to face Damian) and you must be Robin.. Jonathan's best friend... (turned back) my my... first time seeing you without your mask on.. (chuckling) you have beautiful, eyes..

Me: How's Jon?

Monica: The good news is... everything is stable... we've performed his surgery, blood replacement, and minor stitches.. The bad news is, he still hasn't woke up...

I thought I'd come here to find good news... like "good news! Your friend Jonathan's awake!"... But no.... I kept my head low, counting each tiles as I followed her to wherever Jon's is...

Monica: Robin?

I noticed Monica stopped walking because her clear white shoes are in front of mine and she called me out. I looked up to meet her eyes. They looked like they're about to cry... She placed her right hand on my shoulder.

Monica: Listen sugar.... You were very brave yesterday... I understand what it's like to see your best friend lying helplessly in a hospital... truly I do.. You reminded me of myself when my best friend, Amanda was in a hospital... Long story short, she didn't make it....

Me: I'm sorry, for your lost..

Monica: Its alright... that was four years ago.. (released hands from his shoulder) anyways, I'm not gonna bored you with my stories of Amanda's... What I want you to know is, Jonathan is going to be alright... He's breathing... He's fine.. He just needs time to wake up... That's all.. I want you to be brave.. not for me but for yourself... and also for Jonathan.. He needs it now more than ever... Can you do that?

I swallowed a sob... thinking about Jon and how scared he must feel... I inhale and exhale slowly before I answered her.

Me: Yes... I'll try.

Monica: That's wonderful sweetie.. Come on, I'll lead you to his ICU room. (Began walking)

Monica began walking again.. I followed her from behind. We've approached infront of an elevator. She pressed the up button and instantly with a DING, the elevator doors opened. She walked in and then I. When the doors shut, she pressed the 5th floor.. When the doors opened back, we exit and began walking pass many ICU patients rooms...

Monica: Jon has his own ICU room... we think it's alot more safer than placing him with other patients... His room number is 27.. and here we are..

We've arrived. On the door, there's a paper written Patient: Jonathan Kent. Monica twisted the door knob clock wise and pushed opened the door. She then made way for me to enter first... I walked in.. I gaze around the room and spotted Jon.. lying on a gurney, with his eyes closed and body tucked under the blanket.. I walked closer and stood next to the bed... The last I saw him, he had many tubes all over his face and body.. now he only has a few in his arms and an oxygen mask over his nose. Monica walked over and stood on the other side of the bed..

Monica: You know... it could get really lonely in here...

Me: Doesn't his parents come to visit him?

Monica: Yes, they visit. But not long... they have their own reasons on why they couldn't stay which is none of my business. They gave us the responsibility to look after him and to alert them as soon as he wakes up... so, in short, they are depending on us to keep him safe here while they're off doing God knows what....

Me: I see....

What was Lois and Superman's doing till they can't accompany their own son in the hospital?? Is whatever they're doing more important than their son? I took my eyes off Monica's and stared at Jon's closed eyelids... wondering if he could hear us talking right now...

Monica: Robin... Perhaps it would be best... if you could stay here, with him... he may be asleep... but who knows... he could be feeling really scared... you're his best friend, maybe your presence will lift his spirits, giving him the courage to wake up..

Me: Does that even work? Or is it just some kind of fairy tale crap to make me feel better....

Monica: Oh honey I'm not kidding.. This is no fairytale talk. It's real. And we've seen it happened to many coma patients here...  Although Jonathan isn't in a coma, it still wouldn't hurt to have you around..

Me: Even if I stay... where am I suppose to sleep? In the waiting area? If rather--

Monica: Oh no no... You'll sleep in this room... right over there.. (pointing behind Damian)

I turned around to see what she was pointing at.. It was a fama moonrise chair... perfect for reading of sleeping... Still, I don't know if I should stay or not.. I turned back to face Monica, speechless..

Monica: Remember Robin, I'm not forcing you. It's entirely up to you.. I'm just saying it would be nice if you could stay here with him till he wakes up... imagine how happy he'll be when he opens his eyes and see someone he knows..
What do you say...
