And so, since I’m curious about this Rin-chan guy, I decide to maybe stalk him a bit after school. I just want to see what he’s like. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that, right?
First off, I decide to talk to Gou-chan since she’s my friend and Rin’s sister. This morning, I search for her at the gates and see her walking alone while reading a book to study for her test. “Gou-chan!” I call out while waving at her.
She gives an annoyed expression and sighs, “I told you, it’s Kou, Chiaki!”
I just laugh, “Hehe… I forget sometimes… Anyways, good morning!”
She smiles to hide that annoyance and places the book by her side as her finger is squishing in between the pages to keep her place. “Good morning. Is there something you need?” Of course, she would realize something is wrong because I don’t usually call out to her unless I need some help in some way.
“Well… Do you have a brother?” I ask to start it off.
She nods.
“Uhm… Is his name Rin?”
She nods again and her face turns into suspicion. “And what are you implying?”
I bite my bottom lip and tap my foot against the concrete path. “Well, I’m just curious because I bumped into him yesterday and something happened, so now he has to teach me how to swim!”
Her suspicion remains. “And how did this happen? Did he do something to you?”
“Not exactly. It’s more like he accidentally bumped into me and my phone fell and when I picked it up, the screen was cracked. And then, I had an idea when I realized he could swim,” I start rambling, but before I could ramble some more, I clear my throat and add, “And you know how much I’ve always wanted to learn how to swim, so instead of him paying me, I ask him if he could teach me how to swim!”
She purses her lips. “Are you sure you didn’t force him? I can see you doing that.”
“N-No!” I stutter. “Okay, okay. I kind of did, but I don’t think he noticed. He said he’ll agree and we’re going to meet at the public pool this weekend, but I want to know more about him before I go and I want to make sure he’s actually going.”
She face palms herself. “And that is why you don’t go asking strangers for help! I mean, sure he’s my brother, but what if you bumped into some pervert like their captain last year?” She shudders. “Anyways, how come you never asked Mako or Haru? Uhm, forget Haru, but Mako will be a reasonable teacher.”
My eyes trail. “Er…” I’m too shy to even approach those two. I guess it’s because they’re both gorgeous, and it would be distracting to learn from them. “They would be too distracting. Plus, I don’t want anyone other than you from our school knowing I can’t swim! It’s embarrassing!”
“Not everyone can swim, Chiaki-chan. Just remember that.”
“I know, but I really want to learn.”
She sighs once again this morning. “Fine, I’ll help you.”
I beam. “Thanks Gou-chan!”
“It’s Kou! But yeah, I know how you are, so I’m sure you’re going to visit him at school after your volleyball practice. I’ve seen you a couple of times while the guys are practicing, but I didn’t say anything.” She takes out a piece of paper and pencil from her bag and scribbles down the directions towards Rin’s school.
“It’s a private academy, so I’m not sure how you’ll get in, but since the boys will be practicing there with them, I can tell them we have a new member that’s helping me with training and competition. I’ll also say that you’ll be coming late, so just call me when you’re coming so I can pick you up.” She hands me the paper.
