The lines between right and wrong, by the laws of humanity, were blurry. It was difficult to place when someone had gone too far, or hadn't done enough. At least, that's how it was on earth. In the depths of Hell, little regard for 'morals' were given. People never wasted their time fighting for what was right, knowing that in the end, nothing could truly fix their broken society.

No one cared to fix it...

Until Y/n. There were rumors drifting on the streets about a shadowed crusader, one who fought using questionable methods to restore what little goodness their world had. Some begrudgingly admired him for trying. Others took his 'heroism' and mocked it for, in their opinion, trying to make it seem as though his morals were above theirs.

And then there were powerful figures such as Sir Pentious, the Radio Demon, and even Lucifer himself, who absolutely hated the vigilante demon with as much fire and passion as one could. See, the problem was that Y/n was undoubtedly good at what he did; slipping through many of the territorial demon's defenses like a sly snake and posing a serious obstacle for many of their plans.

He caused a power outage at Alastor's radio tower right as he was in the process of broadcasting the tortured screams of several prisoners who had attempted to defy him. Not to mention, the prisoners mysteriously managed to disappear from right under his nose, a mocking note telling him to quote 'Play a nice song instead ;)' having been left behind. Sir Pentious, upon initiating another attempted take over, was interrupted by a dark figure who bid him hello before promptly smashing the motherboard and setting him back weeks of work, then diving away into the night before the egg minions could land a shot on him. And Lucifer... Lucifer was the most enraged out of anyone, as many of the laws he imposed to keep sinners under his rule were not only violated but interrupted by Y/n's shenanigans. The slave house he'd built and unceremoniously crammed hundreds of demons in, bound in chains, had been broken into, the guards killed, and promptly evacuated. Once all the slaves had been freed from their chains and far from the building, the vigilante set it ablaze.

Charlie watched with a frown as her father paced back and forth, muttering curses under his breath as his wife, with a rather calm demeanor over the whole ordeal, attempted to rectify his agitation.

"Why not put out a bounty?" Lilith suggested, watching as he halted and thought it over.

"A good idea. It'll be the only incentive to get these lazy citizens of mine to do something. It seems I've been paying this bastard of a demon too much of my attention lately..." He sighed, rubbing his temples.

"And rightly so. He's nothing short of a nuisance." She stated, before her eyes drifted to Charlie's thoughtful expression. "Something wrong, darling?"

Charlie snapped out of it, and feverishly shook her head. "No! Nothing at all, mother."

Then, with some mumbled explanation, excused herself. Lucifer watched her leave up the staircase towards her room, raising a suspicious brow in the process.

"Has she seemed a little... off to you lately?" He asked his wife after a moment.

"Off?" Lilith repeated, taking a sip of her tea and allowing the idea to sink in. "Not particularly. Why do you ask?"

Lucifer's grasp around his staff became firm, but he turned and sat back down at the table, ceasing his pacing. "It just seems that ever since we've had this hooded moron playing hero, she's gotten more distant. Anytime we mention him, she resolves to stare off into space. Sometimes even smiling."

Lilith laughed, as if the mere thought were amusing. "I highly doubt it has anything of the sort to do with that little pest. She's still young. They go through so many phases at this point, that it's unbelievable. I'll bet she was simply thinking about what dress she wants for her next birthday. You know how it is with teenagers girls, darling~ Never have their thoughts in one place."

And with that, the queen dismissed it, claiming an apple from the basket at the center of the table. Lucifer frowned slightly, looking towards where his daughter had fled up to, before sighing.

"Yes, I suppose you're right."

Charlie crept silently up the flight of hidden stairs. The castle held many secrets, one of which was the unbelievable number of hidden passageways meant for royals to take shelter in the case that they fell under attack. Many hadn't even discovered by her parents, and were an effective escape for when she wished to be left alone.

She loved them, she really did, but it was hard sometimes to face just how different she was to them. At times, she didn't even feel like their daughter. And besides, if they knew some of the secrets she kept, they wouldn't be very happy.

Like him...

He was her biggest secret. She crawled through the trap door, which led out to the roof of one of the castle spires. Not a safe place to be, but the gate around it's rim prevented any risk of sliding straight off. Her eyes gazed around worriedly, wondering if something had happened. He said he would be here around-

"Charlie..." A familiar voice spoke, and she spun around. Soon, a smile graced her face.

Immediately, wordlessly, she ran into his arms. Those soft yet bold e/c eyes looked onto her fondly from beneath the shroud of his hood, and he returned the loving gesture.

"I was starting to worry something happened to you..." She mumbled into his chest.

"Me? Never. Safety is my middle name!" He joked, running his hands through that fine golden hair.

She gave a halfhearted laugh, but upon seeing the aching in her eyes, Y/n lifted her chin up with a frown. "Hey, what is it? I'm okay. I'm right here."

Charlie frowned, ducking her head and twirling a strand of hair in her fingers with anxious restraint. "What happens if something does happen, though? All I ever hear anymore is how badly my father wants you dead. What... What if he finds out, or-"

She felt a pair of lips suddenly capture her own, soft and putting a sudden halt to her worried ramblings. After the surprise wore off, she wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.

Finally, he pulled away and, leaning his forehead against her own murmured lovingly.

"What I have in front of me is worth the risk."
