I sat in the waiting room, rubbing my knees as my palms grew sweaty. I looked at the bare wall and thought back to last year when I was sitting here praying that Seth would make it.
I remember my mom screaming and holding on tightly to my Dad's jacket, She couldn't stop crying and the more she cried the more I held my tears in.
"Neveah. Neveah!" I blinked quickly and looked up to see Kiyana's face, she looked so pale. My heartbeat quickened as it hammered against my chest.
Tears began to roll down her cheeks uncontrollably, I stood up and wrapped my arms around her. She put her head on my shoulder and my shirt grew warm with tears.
Then the Nurse came out, "Ms. Shaw, your mother is ready to speak to you" I pulled back in confusion, "Kiyana, I thought she.."
"They're taking her to a rehabitation centre"
"I'm so sorr..." My words trailed off as Kiyana stopped me by putting her hands up.
"I don't even care anymore, I was worried about losing her but she doesn't care anymore and that's fine because I no longer care anymore, I pra... I pray she never gets out" She grabbed her jacket off the chair and turned back to the nurse "Tell her I said, safe trip." Then she stormed past me and left the hospital.
Davis came out of his Mom's hospital room, He placed his hand on the frame of the door, His face turned red as he tried not to cry, He looked up at me, "Where's my sister"
"Um.. Kiyana just left"
He looked down at the floor "I don't blame her"
I didn't know what to say so I just stood there quietly. "God I hate everything" He screamed as he punched the front desk. "Sorry sir I'm gonna have to ask you you to leave." He looked at the nurse and pushed her container of files of the desk, He walked out of the hospital as papers went flying around the whole room.
I looked down at my phone, 'three missed calls from Dad" The school probably told him I wasn't present for classes. I considered calling him but instead put my phone in my pocket and decided to just head home instead.
I knocked on the door, My Dad opened it immediately. "Neveah, what the hell?" "It was my friend, her mom was just found intoxicated, I was going to call but I didn't want to leave her alone"
He looked at me as he relaxed his shoulders. Then he stepped back to create room for me to come inside, He closed the door behind me as I hung my blazer up on the coat rack.
"Tough day huh" He murmured
"Yeah I should probably go call Kiyana"
"Yeah yeah, Dinner will be ready in an hour"
"Okay, thanks Dad"
****
I hung up as Kiyana said she was tired, I thought about her as I slowly fell asleep, I wondered how she would cope with Davis and everything, where she would live. She told me she might be most likely put in a group home. I put my earphones in, closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
