Nights in Rio (Part 2)

Walking down the beaten pathway to the giant house my father bought 3 years ago, the winds swept through my hair causing me to stop and take in the air I hadn't felt in so long. The people behind me stopped an gazed in my direction as my father walked up putting his hands on my shoulder. "I've always loved this place and I swear every time I land it makes me miss her all the more" he mumbled softly as he kissed my forehead. I smiled as he walked off presumably to open the door as Simon appeared next to me. "Are you okay, baby?" he asked in a concerned tone. "Yes Monnie, I'm okay. I just missed being here." I smiled reassuringly.

My mother and I were inseparable while I was growing up, often doing business in Brazil, she would bring me here with her. I reminisced on the walks with her on the beach, walking through food market just to smell the different spices and foods of her native homeland, even the mountainous terrains we hiked when she needed to blow off steam. I just miss her.

 The house was just how I remembered it when he bought it. The 9100 sq ft Spanish style house sat on the top of the highest peak in Rio overlooking city as well as the beaches. One of my dad's many buying points. It consisted of 10 bedrooms, a large kitchen, a lavish living area, and the backyard. "Are you sure this is gonna be enough space for all of us?" I yelled to my dad who was waiting at the unlocked door. "It's not that's why Nye and I are taking over your apartment," he laughed walking into the house. Everyone looked at me stunned into place by the mention of my separate rental property. "When did you get an apartment, Dr. Chen?" Nye asked with a mix of confusion and anger about the fact that he just unloaded his family and bags from the car. "While we were in New York I snuck off to Carnival. I found out about some new apartments in the heart of the city near the market mom used to take me. So I bought the largest one they had with the best view," I innocently smiled at him giving him a thumbs up.

He stared down at my thumb and then back into my eyes. "How much did it cost Aurora?" he asked cocking up his eyebrow. Everyone still stood in place staring me down like I had just threatened to take over the world, as I put my head down moving my feet in the dirt. "Let's just say this I've been saving for a place for a while and I know everyone is like your rich you don't need to save, but I like nice things ----," "How much?" Nye interrupted trying to hold back a laugh. "6 million," I said, clearing my throat as everyone's eyes got wider. "Woah! you spent that much on an apartment you will barely be in?" Simon asked shocked. I looked back to the house lost in thought as I began to speak. "Well actually before I got tasked with BTS's contract I was actually planning to move here," I said looking back to everyone making their face soften. I looked down to my feet once more "I love Korea, but Korea doesn't love me. I grow tired of having to prove my existence as a person, not to mention we are starting a branch here in Rio. The plan was to send Junnie when he finished school at Yonsei, but he had his little one and they decided not to move. So I volunteered," I mumbled, reestablishing my grip on my suitcase.

"Are you still moving?" Mina asked loosening her grip on Kookie's hand. "Not anymore, when I signed BIGHIT's contract to be their tech merchandise and security developer for the next 5 years, it became my father's way of keeping me in Korea," I said smiling individually at the boys, making my way to Simon as we all moved towards the front door.  

The next few hours went by quietly without my father and Nye around constantly hounding us. The guys all sat with their girls in the living room playing drinking games while Izzy, Simon, Jenny, and I relaxed on the back patio talking about my next projects and their trip to Busan. I missed having my best friend around and watching her with Jenny absolutely lit me up. They were literally the perfect couple and Jenny was the sweetest girl I had ever met. As our conversation progressed Izzy revealed that she had proposed to Izzy in Busan and that they were gonna get married in the states.
