Chapter 23

As soon as I raised my hand, the magnitude of the growls grew louder.
Both the sides raced towards each other. They were so fast, so quick in their movements that they were invisible. It seemed as if I was the only one in the clearing, if not for the screeches and growls.

I tried to plunge my sword into an guard's heart when he came for me.

But my sword snapped into two.

His hand came to my throat, but he backed away as his hand burned due to the vervain on my throat.

I had smeared myself with vervain.

I had been trained for these vampires and my guards were not only vampires, they were warriors too!

One of my guards helped me finish him.

I fought more vampires and saw more gruesome sights. I could hear the metallic shrieks when the vampires were ripped apart.

Carlos was well guarded by his guards. They covered him like a shroud while they fought.

Our side was losing. Our numbers were diminishing rapidly. I fought back the tears that were threatening to escape. My guards were dying.

I chased a vampire and caught him. I tore his head and threw it away, still staring at Carlos.

It was moments later that I heard a shriek. This scream caught my attention from all the others that were echoing around.

It was the loudest of all. All of us fell silent.

My eyes widened in horror when I saw Bella fall to the ground in an unnatural position. Her eyes were wide open.

A vampire held a syringe in his hand next to her. He dropped it, bent down and started undressing her. His eyes were hungry. The pervert.

My reflexes acted quickly and I started running toward Bella.

I pushed him out of the way and bent down. Her face was blue. She was injected with vervain.

Not again........

Instantly, I felt a hand catch me by my hair and pull me up.

"Well, well, well your friend is gone and no one can save you now! " Carlos whispered in my ear.

He caught me by my dress and raised his sword, as if to stab me but then suddenly paused.

" On second thoughts, why don't I drain you. " He said and immediately dug his fangs into my neck.

I heard my guards, who were held by our enemies gasp. The others snickered.

Tears made its way down my cheek as I tried to push him away.

And then I gave up.

I couldn't win. He was too strong, and now Bella is gone.

My mind went back to Daniel. In a matter of minutes I would be with him, happy in heaven.

I smiled through my tears.

But then I remembered his last moments. He had pleaded with me to take revenge. I had to avenge Stephenie's death too. I couldn't disappoint them.

Daniel said he would come back.

I felt more blood leave my body.

My eyes opened in anger. I couldn't give up, I  had to avenge their death.

I flipped back and freed myself from Carlos's grip. Landing smoothly on my feet, I charged towards him, though I was drowsy due to the loss of blood.

My guards kept the now raging enemies away from me.

I jumped onto his shoulders, avoiding his flaying hands and drew out a little bottle from my belt.
I uncorked it and poured the vervain down his collar.

My eardrums almost ruptured at his shriek of agony. He was powerless now, too much in pain. I stared at the burnt flesh on his back.

"What did you say Carlos? That I'm a mere powerless human? Who's powerless now? Who's the Tiger now? You took away everything from me, Stephenie,  the Queen, Daniel... "

" What did I ever do to you to receive this fate? I won't forgive you. All I wanted to see was fear on your face, which I got. I've shown you who the mere coward is. "

He wasn't moving, he seemed to be completely paralysed. He didn't even try to get me off his shoulder.

The others were fighting, I could hear my guards screaming. Everyone were losing now. One by one everyone were dying.

I stared at the scene until the last guard fell. It happened so fast. My guards fought like tigers, they fought with enough courage to kill the enemies.

It happened in all of 30 seconds, so quickly.

It was only Carlos and me now, surrounded by bodies and bodies of vampires.

He seemed to be completely in shock as he stared, his face was blank.

And then he snapped into action, trying to get me off his shoulders.

I acted quickly and caught his head between my hands.

"Say hello to your execution Carlos. "

I heaved, ignoring his wild thrashing. His head rolled onto the ground.

I had done it, I killed him.
