Mermaids & Marauders: Since You've Been Gone

Chapter 01

It has been quite a while ago that Katie was looking forward to something. She was looking forward to go back to Hogwarts. She knew that she would be having some troubles with adjusting to live on land again. After 13 years of living under water.

It turns out that after Hogwarts she needed to spend time with her mother. She was safe from her death eather of a father. She lived in piece with the other mermaids, made new friends. Ava and Ariana. They were full blood mermaids.

After her study at Hogwarts she visited James and Lily many times. She witnessed Lily getting pregnant with her first and only child. She made sure she came to visit once a month, until the Potters needed to go to a safe house, for there own protection and there unborn son. Voldemort wanted them to join his side.

Albus arranged for a safe house at that time. Katie wasn't able to look them up again. The location was kept secret. Even from her. It was for all of them safer when only one person would keep it a secret. They choose Peter Pettigrew for it.

Katie was sad, but understood why ofcourse. James explained to her that they didn't want Voldemort to torture her to get the location of there wereabouts. He would gain a very powerful halfbreed and her biological father would get what he wanted. Both James and Lily wouldn't risk that.

Katie was honored when James and Lily wrote to her about the birth of a healthy baby boy named Harry James Potter. They asked if she wanted to be his godmother. She ofcourse accepted.

When Voldemort found Lily and James somehow and killed them, tried to kill Harry, but sort of died during that attempt, Harry got dumped by a nasty aunt and uncle.

Albus made that choice, he made the choice that it would be better for Harry to grow up without people knowing his name before he could talk.

Katie never fully agreed with the choice that her dad made about Harry. She felt that he would be better of in her care. Where Harry would be loved, she would look after him if he was her own son.

But because she had been living under water for so long Albus found that she needed to adjust to living on land first before she would take care of Harry. Albus needed to give Harry a chance to get to know his godmother, so he did the only thing that he could think of. He offered Katie a job at Hogwarts. It would be logic for her to take the position as professor for Care of Magical Creatures since she was a halfbreed herself.

Katie had no idea how she was going to tell Harry that she was his godmother. That he was given the choice of living with her instead of those awful muggles he was living with now.

Albus had warned her that this year she wouldn't be the only new professor at Hogwarts. He had a new professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts. He wouldn't say who, but Albus was certain that she would like it.

She sighted as she climbed into the Hogwarts express. It seemed like yesterday when she and Lily were going to Hogwarts. Excited to begin there study. Lily would be proud at her. Who would have thought. Her a teacher.

She was looking for an empty spot and found one. One person was sitting in a room for himself. He had a blanket over his head. Light brown hair peaked out. Light brown hair that was very formiliar for Katie. She leaned over the person and cheered.

'Remus!', she yelled waking him up. 'What... who. No way, Katie!', Remus said happily. The two old friends hugged.

'Albus warned me about me not being the only new teacher and that I would like the other new teacher as well', Remus stated still hugging Katie. 'Really, he said the same to me', Katie said. 'That man has a way of keeping secrets', Remus said.

'So... Defense against the dark Arts teacher, I've heard the privious teachers weren't that great. One turned out to be Voldemort, the other was as incompetent as a... I don't even have any words for that stupid prick of a Gilderoy', Katie said.

'You as Care for magical creatures professor, it seems the most logical job for you, Albus has thought his new staff trough', Remus said smiling.

'I'm sorry I couldn't visit as much as I wanted too', Katie whispered filled with guilt. Remus shook his head. 'Your hear now, I know you where there for James and Lily, there are only so many places where a mermaid can be. I understand the position', Remus said. 'You've always been the most understanding person from our group Remus', Katie said.

'You've changed though, you are a woman now, that's for sure', Remus stated. Katie giggled. 'Thanks, hey how is your love life at the moment Remus, have you met anyone?', Katie asked. 'No, sadly. But who would want to be with a werewolf', Remus said. 'You are not just a werewolf, you are a human being too, you are just like me a halfbreed. Which means you can love. You deserve it more then anyone Remus. I hope you find it one day', Katie said.

'Thanks, what about you. Have you dated anyone after Snape? A handsome merman perhaps?', Remus asked. 'Eeeeh I must say no, I've spend the last 13 years bonding with my mother, she is amazing, we are the best of friends now, it took us 4 years to get there, but here we are now', Katie said proudly. 'That's good, not good about the not dating part, I hope you find someone too, you deserve it', Remus said.

After they said that too each other the door slided open. 3 students were entering the cabin. 'Excuse me, it is full everywhere, can we join here?', a girl with brown hair asked. 'Sure, have a seat, excuse me. I'm going to have a word with the machinist about the space of the train, I'll be back soon', Remus said.

Katie smiled at the 3 friends. One of them she recognized instantly. Her godson. Harry James Potter.

'Go ahead, have a seat guys. I am professor Holt. You guys are...', she started. 'Ron Weasley', the red haired boy stated. 'Hermione Granger', said the girl with the brown hair. 'Harry Potter', Harry said.

Katie smiled. 'I recognised you Harry, you have your mothers eyes', Katie said smiling. 'You don't recognize me because of my scar?', Harry asked. 'I knew Lily and James very well, we went to school together, we were the best of friends, Lily and I were always together. So I can actually say that I recognised you by your eyes Harry', Katie said smiling.

'You knew my mom and dad?', Harry asked. 'Yes, very well. But that is a story for another time perhaps', Katie said smiling at her godson.

At that moment the train suddenly stopped...
