"Angel, please get up or otherwise you're going to complain later about getting late." My mom said, shaking me.

"What time is it?" I whispered. "6:45, school starts at 8. Hurry up and get ready!" She leaves my room.

Ugh. I don't want to get up, but she's right. I'll regret it if I don't. So I dragged my lazy ass out of bed and went to the bathroom, took a shower, and put my clothes on. I decided that even though I usually keep my long black hair in a braid, I would leave it down. For makeup I didn't do much as my skin looked surprisingly good at the moment, so just mascara and lip gloss.

I checked myself in the mirror. I looked pretty good, with my heart-shaped face, brown eyes, and black hair. I often wish that I looked prettier, and I kind of do wish that right now too. But I've got what I've got and I'm going to make it work. I smiled at my reflection.

I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs to eat my breakfast. While eating, my brother talked about how excited he was. "I'm going to make lots and lots of friends!" he exclaimed. My amazing, happy-go-lucky brother. He will make friends, everyone loves him. Honestly, at this point, it's me I'm more worried about.

My mom drives my brother and me to school. After dropping off Dash she gives me the usual first-day talk. "You're going to do just fine and everyone will love you. Don't be so nervous. I love you see you after school honey!" She says as we pull up to the school. "Bye mom, have a great day!" I say, jumping out of the car.

I gulp, walking into my new school.

I walk to my first class, Pre-Calculus. On the way there, a lot of people look at me. I think they noticed that I was new because I have heard that this is a pretty small town.

I took a seat as the bell rang, as kids filed in I got my first impression of the school, not the best in discipline and education.

A guy that looked to be about my age came up to me and smiled. "Hi, is this seat taken?" he said, pointing to the one next to me. "No," I replied, trying to look as friendly as possible. He sat down.

He had light brown long hair and greenish-gray eyes. He was cute but not my type.

"What's your name?" he asked me.

"Angel Blossom. What about you?" I replied.

"Fair warning, I have a unique name. Ponyboy Michael Curtis." he smiled.

"Nice name," I said. "How old are you? I'm 14." I continued.

"Same here" he replied. "You're new, aren't you?" he questioned.

"Yeah, my family and I just moved here from California." "So that's why I'm getting beachy vibes!" he snapped his fingers. "Bingo!" he yelled. I couldn't help but laugh.

Maybe I would make friends here after all.

"Alright, class..." Our teacher had finally begun talking, you know, about the usual first-day stuff, supplies and what we are going to be covering and blah blah blah. But I got through the period just fine, as well as the rest of the day.

I got lucky because Ponyboy was in all of my classes, so he showed me around and told me everything there was to know about our school and life here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He told me that there were a lot of fights here and that guys were going to hit on me (yeah right, I thought to that one, if they're blind) and a bunch of stuff about himself. He has two brothers named Sodapop and Darry, and a group of close friends. He also does track and field, which I'm trying to get in to, so I asked for advice. He also showed me around the school too.

Finally, the school day was over. "Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to come over around 5 and meet everyone?" he asked me, suddenly seeming shy. "Sure! Just give me your phone number and address. I'll double-check with my parents and call you to tell you for sure." I told him.

He wrote down his address and phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to me. "See you soon!" he called, walking home.

My mother was there to pick me up. Just before I walked toward the parking lot, a girl with red hair stopped me.

"Hey!" She said. "What's your name?"

"Angel. You?"

"Sherri Valance, but you can call me Cherry. That's what my friends call me," she said, smiling. She continued, "Anyway, I'm having a party this Saturday and was hoping you would want to come?"

"For sure!" I said, beaming.

"Great! Here's an invite! See you around." She handed me an invitation and walked off.

"Hi, mom!" I stepped into the car.

"Hi, sweetie! Who were those kids?" she asked.

"People that I think I'm going to become great friends with." I smiled. "Can I go to a party on Saturday and somebody's house today at 5?"

"Sure, sweetie. I'm just glad you're making friends."

"Thanks. Believe me, I'm glad I'm making friends too." I replied happily, smiling out the window.

Things might just work out after all.

A/N:

Hi! I hope your enjoying the story! So, Angel just met Ponyboy and Cherry. She's going to go to a party on Saturday and is meeting the gang very soon! What do you think is going to happen next?

I just finished reading "That Was Then, This Is Now"! It's just as amazing as "The Outsiders"! You should totally read it!

Spoiler Alert: Ponyboy Curtis, Tim Shepard, and Curly Shepard are all in it, and it made me so happy to see old characters again.

I think I might include other characters from SE Hinton's other books in this story because they all know each other and live in the same place, or start another one with them in it.

Anyway, that's all for now... keep on reading!
