Detention...

Maya's POV;

I stared at the back of Riley's head, just wondering what the hell she was thinking when she outed my situation with Josh to the whole school. Is this her sick way of punishing me for lying to her for almost three years? I just don't know how we went from being the ultimate best friends, to having a cat fight in the courtyard over the course of one semester. Definitely not how I planned on spending the holiday season.

Letting out a small sigh I looked over at Lucas, and he shook his head in disappointment. He had been thinking the same thing. When did everything get so messy? Maybe things were better off when everyone thought we hated each other.

"So, who wants to explain why you two were fighting this afternoon?" Mr. Matthews sat on his desk and fixed his eyes on me. Because of course he assumes that it's my fault. "Maya?"

I sat up straight and looked into his eyes. "You're oh so perfect daughter," I started, making sure to emphasize just how imperfect she was, "decided it was a great idea to not only tell everyone I was raped, but she even let her real feelings about the situation and me become public knowledge." Riley turned around in her chair and glared at me. "Sir, all I did was walk over to the table, and overheard Riley trashing me to Lucas."

"If you don't want me talking about you behind your back, maybe you shouldn't have slept with my boyfriend."

"Riley, turn around please." Mr. Matthews prompted his daughter, trying to avoid another fight. "We already know your feelings towards Maya, and I don't doubt that she's telling the truth."

Riley turned to face her father, and the look on her face was priceless. For once, he finally was on my side. "But dad, she-"

"Lucas," Mr. Matthews cut Riley off, "What's going on with them?"

Lucas shrugged and leaned forward in his desk, "I think Riley is still upset about my history with Maya. Which I understand. But that doesn't give her the right to be disrespectful towards her." He looked between me and his girlfriend, then back at Mr. Matthews. "I don't think she meant what she said. I think she's just trying to hurt Maya by attacking a very sensitive subject."

"No I meant every word I said." Riley smirked at me, then glared back at Lucas. "I think Maya is a homewrecker, and I think she's lying about Josh."

I looked at her with disgust, "Why do you think I would lie about something like that?"

"Because you're a liar, Maya." She snapped. "You lied about your relationship with Lucas. You even lied about hooking up with Josh. You told me you were just friends. And now you expect me to believe that he raped you?"

"That's enough." Mr. Matthews chimed in. Riley settled in her seat and faced the front of the room.

Riley was right. I had a pretty extensive track record of lies. I mean, I'm lying to her right now. There's something between Lucas and I, but we're both way too afraid of breaking the news to Riley. I'm not lying about Josh. I don't think she believes what's she's saying. She was on my side not too long ago. She wanted me to press charges.

We spent the rest of the hour in silence.

I had a million things on my mind as I waited on the steps for Lucas. He stayed back after detention, I guess Mr. Matthews wanted to talk to him. What am I supposed to do? Do I press charges against Josh? Do I tell Riley the truth?

Before I could get too deep into my thoughts, a pair of lips kissed my cheek. Knowing it was Lucas, I pulled away. "Stop."

He sighed and sat next to me. "I'm really sorry for what happened today." We stared out into the parking lot in front of us. "Riley has literally lost her damn mind."
