A few days later and things are looking up.
Des can now prevent her shadow creatures from fucking me up and I appreciate that greatly. As a reward, I nicked a few chocolate bars from Sam's stash and we're now sharing them on the roof. After being covered in sweat for nearly two hours, the outdoor air is welcome on our slick skin.
"So, you don't even live here?" She asks and plops a little Krackle bar in her mouth. My head shakes as I nibble on the sides of a Reese.
"Nope. Peter and I live in Queens." I respond and she absorbs this with furrowed brows. "We've known each other for a long time. He's visited the team when we all lived here because of the Stark internship."
"Is that actually a thing?" She asks, skepticism coloring her voice. I shrug.
"Must be, right?" I lie simply. Her amber eyes watch me as I turn back to looking over the grounds.
"I actually did some research at the public library to see if I could score it. Couldn't find a thing about it." She says and discomfort settles in my gut at continuing to lie. My eyes meet hers again and her eyebrows raise. Silence ensues and she barks out a laugh. "Wow, okay. Trade secrets. I get it."
"No, no, it's not like that." I assure her and sigh. "Uh, well. You are a part of the team at this point, right?" The question is more to myself than her, but we both nod. "Peter is...Spiderman. Just don't tell anyone. Let him tell you." Her eyes widen.
"Really? Peter?" She repeats and looks out at the yard. "Huh. Never would've guessed that."
"You won't mention it?" I question and it takes her a moment to answer. She turns to me with a smile.
"Course not."
We head back inside only to instantly be ambushed by Tony.
"Jesus Christ." Des breathes as we turn a corner and he's just there, a woman rolling a long line of clothes beside him.
"Ah, good! Needed to see both of you. Des, these are for you." Tony waves to the line of clothes. Her eyes widen and she glances at me while Tony scribbles on his holographic iPad. This can only mean one thing; a party. "Pick whichever you like. You have, uh," he glances at his watch, "an hour."
"T, I thought Victory banned you from having parties after the shin-dig with the Komodo dragon and the chocolate fountain?" I remind him and Des pauses in her search for an outfit to look at me with wide eyes and an open mouth. Tony huffs.
"Well she's not here is she, little prodigy? So, go change into a suit and meet in the foyer. An hour." He points at me and fluffs my curls before walking on sans clothing rack. I turn back to Des.
"Come on, I'll roll that to your room." We make our way there and split ways so she can choose what she wants and I can change into my suit Tony's already laid on the bed. Sighing, I take a shower before slipping the thing on. Suits aren't really my thing. I've worn it to weddings and stuff but have never really enjoyed the wearing of the suit.
As per request, I'm in the foyer before Tony is and freeze at the sight of Peter in a suit. Unable to resist, I whistle as loud as I can and he spins towards the noise, cheeks already tinted pink. My mouth gets a little dry at seeing him, but I just swallow and walk over to him to straighten his red tie.
"Well, look at that. You can look like a gentleman." I tease and he shoves me off with a small chuckle.
"You, on the other hand, still look like an idiot." He returns and my lips twitch. Does he still not get that I'm serious?
"Really. You look good." I take a risk and remove the teasing lilt from my tone. The warm brown eyes widen and his cheeks get red as he looks at the floor.
