Model: Generational Space Station Gaia-01
Construction: Began in 2155CE. Completed in 2217CE. Left Earth's orbit and Sol System immediately after embarkation was complete. Gaia (Herself), was fully installed and integrated on 12/12/2092.
Length: 74km.
Width: 124km.
Height: 86km.
Mass: ~2.8 Mt.
Temperature: avg 22.5°C.
Gravity: avg 1.2 G.Power Source: 4 Main Tokamak reactors (~10m DIA torus corona). Magnetic containment field bound hydrogen-based mix fusion core, with 20 Back-up fusion reactors (~5m DIA torus corona).
Power Banks: Rated 80.975GW. Each main and back up reactor is joined with multiple power bank relays, which act as electrical reservoirs storing and distributing power. Without reactor energy output, the Station can maintain nominal functions for up to 3 weeks.
Defensive/Space Debris Clearing Capabilities: 200 Vertical Launch Missile Silos fire 645-Halberd LRBM's. A cache consists of >50,000 conventional warheads, 2,000 nuclear warheads and 10,000 BCEB's. Nuclear, W120 warhead. Conventional, 600kg high explosive or sub-munition dispenser with BLU-147/B Combined Effects Bombor PBXN. 200 Heavy Rail Cannons, 40x800mm, extreme velocity non-explosive tungsten carbide projectiles encased in aluminium jackets, ROF 0.4/sec. 400 Point Defence Cannons as quad L/70 style barrelled Close in Weapons System, 18x150mm tungsten carbide projectiles, ROF 4 x 350/min.
Propulsion: 6 x 60m DIA Ion drive Primary thrusters, 10 x 20m DIA Ion drive Secondary thrusters and 500 maneuvering thrusters. Max sub-light velocity of 0.15C, achieved within 5 hours after maximum burn/output is achieved.
Citizen Compliment: The most prominent citizen is Gaia herself, the AI that runs the entire station. Her voice can be heard anywhere, but only upon request. The station population is generally maintained under 2 million citizens. Strict guidelines are in place regarding genetic diversity testing and all citizens receive sterilisation implants at age 15 to ensure no unwanted breeding. Birth defects were completely eliminated decades earlier from slight genetic modifications. All active aged adult citizens contribute wherever possible to life onboard and most individuals fall under one of the three main houses. The Military Faction, the Science and Technology Faction and the Arts Faction. Additional training and house swapping are encouraged.
Command Structure: Gaia Station is governed by the High Council and is served and protected by its Military Faction personnel. 12 revered individuals were drawn from all corners of the station to make ruling decisions and to oversee proceedings at times of importance. Though not serving on Titan expeditions, the few and fewer Lt. Generals and Generals on the station are kept occupied with training junior officers and providing nominations for the selection process of Titan crews.
Food Production: Approximately 20% of Station volume is allocated to hydroponics bays, racks, and to protein slabs. With all excess production preserved as long-life products or recycled back through. Water usage is strictly monitored but not controlled as such. All wastewater is recycled and wastage is minimal. Reserves are regularly maintained through space ice harvested by Scavengers.
Cargo: The station has 12 immense separate cargo bays to each house a Titan when not on an expedition. Each cargo bay also houses dozens of Scavengers and Probes, in addition to colony building kits and supplies, miscellaneous parts storage and an engineering station. Smaller cargo bay air-locks are provided for the Scavengers and Probes to save having to vent the entire bay.
Additional Information: The outer sections of the upper hull are heavily armoured to withstand the trillions of impacts from micrometeorites too small to be cleared by PDC's and etcetera. Forming a dome-like superstructure, the outermost layers of the front/upper portions are comprised of composite armour. 0.5m plates of sacrificial Aluminium sit over 1m thick panels of boron nitride ceramic, with 0.2m of titanium underneath. The only structure to protrude from the armoured dome is the communications array. A network of probes travels ahead of the station to identify potential hazards or desirable materials for collection, some light-years away.
