(this is more like an inspo chapter for everyone who feels they can't get enough recognition in the MDC, Wattpad, or anywhere else.)
Your graphic style.
My definition of style is when you have this unique way of doing a graphic. When you glance at a cover/banner, etc, and right away know who did it because it's so them. It's so them to do that type of thing and to use those colors, and it's so unique you know it's theirs. That's what my definition, and to have a recognizable style is one of my goals.
Among millions of designers, if you want to suceed, you need to be recognized, even from afar. Not because you have the lastest models in tablets to draw digitally and shit, but because of your work and its creativity and quality.
In Wattpad, on my old account, I saw a critique that said that they reduced points because that graphic was so alike to million others. At first I though, wtf man, that's ridiculous. It might be a tutorial or something, but then a realized it's true. What's the point in doing graphics if you're going to try to do the same as someone else?
The key to suceed is your creativy. It's the master key that you'll need forever to open all doors. If you lose the key, you lose everything. If you lose it, I'll beat you with a spoon until you regret losing it.
Jk.
But anyways, you need your creativity. It's always okay to ask someone how they did something, but it depends on you into transforming it into something so much better. If you're gonna copy, at least make it better, right? Always experiment with everything. Fuck the cosequences of a bad, horrible, graphic, but at least you know something else and different.
Now, tricky question: how to recognize a good designer?
Tricky answer: you can't.
Tricky back-up: everyone has different tastes in designing. That's why you find so many styles and so many people requesting from different designers. Because of this, you have a chance. You will always have a chance, there will always be someone who will like your work, even if it's just one person. It's inevitable, don't try to deny your skills. It's something being modest, but when you deny as if your life depends on it, you lose people. Saying you're proud of your work isn't conceited, much less a thing of 'ego'. It's a thing of pride; you should be proud of what you do.
Don't take your skills for granted, man. I have many spoons I could use to beat you up into a pulp. So, don't.
Always, always, be aware that you're talented, that you have skills and that it doesn't come for free. Be aware that you will be tired one day of doing the same over and over again, and it's okay to take time off of it. You'll come back stronger, with better ideas and more spirit to continue.
There's this gap between okay and amazing, and I know many people who give up when they reach that gap. You may give up, but you'll regret it when you see someone else's work and say I could have done that. You could've, but you gave up, because something wasn't going your way or looking how you wanted.
If you're persistent and jump over that gap, you'll see, it no longer takes to perfection everything, because it is good. You'll like it, you'll be proud of it. You'll compare old with new and say I did it. And trust me, the satisfaction of saying that is a lot.
It's worth it, so don't get stuck in a stupid imaginary gap, just yell 'FUCK IT' and jump over it.
(I'm done talking like a wise ass aye, I hope this was some inspo for everyone who feels stuck.)
