When I woke, Beldnar was by my side. I was back in the carriage and sweat had coated my forehead.
"Bad dream?". He asked concerned.
"Yeah" I replied gasping for air.
"I saw you were asleep when we arrived so I let you rest while I went into town".
I looked down to notice he was bearing a sack of supplies.
"What did you get?" I said gulping, still in shock.
"Some potatoes, leeks and rabbit leg, I thought we could make a stew out of it". "I also got you a fresh set of clothes and a health potion, y'know seeing as you love to nearly get yourself killed"
He mocked sarcastically.
"Thanks, uhh how did you pay for all of it?".
"Don't worry about the cost," he beamed "its on me".
There was silence for a moment.
"I need to do something before I leave".
"What's that?" He wondered.
"Visit my great grandmothers grave, Heteri, I never knew anything about her and as her family I wanna pay my respects".
He watched me closely, confused.
"Didn't your parents ever tell you?".
"I never had any" I answered.
"I'm sorry".
"Don't be".
"Do you mind if I ask why?".
I sighed quietly "My father was murdered by a group of bandits when I was 8 and I never really knew my mother".
"What happened to you?".
"Me? I just ran, ran away to wherever and I've been on my own ever since.".
"Wow" he murmured in astonishment.
"C'mon, let's go find her grave" I cut in to break the tension. I was usually uncomfortable talking about it but Beldnar had a strange sense about him that was understandable. We marched through the city's crowds. There were lots of people here just minding their own business. I stayed weary of the guards just in case my bounty here was as high as Solitude. Maybe even worse.
I searched the crowd for the glossy monument.
"Shit!" I whispered.
"What?".
"The guards are coming this way, like right towards us".
"Fuck!".
We kept our heads low and tried to sneak through the city to the gate. Just then, a hand clenched onto my shoulder and dragged me back.
Beldnar followed as he was trapped by a circle of soldiers.
We passed the Whiterun prison, I was beginning to worry if the punishment was more serious.
"Where are you taking us!?" I demanded.
"I'm instructed to escort you to Dragonsreach prior the Jarls request madam".
The Jarls request? This could only end badly.
The giant wooden doors creaked open and the heat of the blazing hearth granted me a 'warm welcome'. The Whiterun guards marched close to my sides. I began thinking of what to put on my gravestone.
"Ah, I see you men found no trouble bringing her in" the Jarl praised.
"Stuck out like a sore thumb sir" one of the soldiers croaked.
They left my sides and Beldnar sauntered over to me.
The Jarl cleared his throat "Tarliah, I believe, isn't it?".
"Yeah.."
"Listen, you caused quite a stir when you slayed that dragon outside Morthal" he explained. "I've been waiting anxiously for the return of a dragonborn and in the bloodline of Heteri no less".
I loosened my fists realising that this may not have been a critical moment.
"As they say, with great power comes great responsibility". "I have a task for you that only one of your kind can perform, if of course you would be so obliged to serve me".
The Jarl has a Quest for my ears only. I was right in the first place. Nothing good was gonna come from this.
