Previously on Voltron Next Generation:
Genesis and her brother Levi escape Earth and their abusive mother to stow away on a transport ship at the choosing of the next Paladins of Voltron. Her plans change when the red lion chooses her and she is thrown into a whole new world. Kairos, son of Allura and Shiro, has a vision from a dark and powerful entity named Tenebris. They then fight off a ghost ship called Razor 7 from a planet far far away that was consumed and destroyed by Tenebris and his dark quintessence, which is infecting the quintessence field. Tenebris has been causing breaches in the planes of existence letting his dark quintessence, or sickness, infect planets. In a less pressing matter, Genesis thinks she may be falling for the new black paladin, Kairos, but after they become closer he distances himself from her. Keith encourages her to follow her heart, advice he wishes someone had given him when he started to have feelings for Lance many years ago.
Now:
Training was more physically demanding than I originally thought it would be, and I was not convinced of the progress I was actually making despite Keith's encouraging words.
However, he did pity me to some degree and we took a break, sitting and drinking water.
We had taken off from Olkarion yesterday morning, and we'd been following the quintessence trail from Razor 7, the big brains were running every test in the book on the samples for more information, and to see if our theory would hold up. So far, nothing.
Just then, Kairos walked in, the air instantly went stiff, we hadn't spoken more than a few words to each other since the other night...
Keith rose an eyebrow, "Kairos, what's up?"
"Uh, Lance wanted to talk to you in the hangar,"
Keith looked between the two of us, "Alright, Kairos, how about you and Gen go through some training sims together while I'm gone, it'll help you both practice working as a close combat and range team,"
Kairos looked to me for my response.
I shrugged, "Sure,"
Keith nodded and left with a wave, a few moments later Kairos walked over to me, pulling out his longbow bayard.
"So you wanna jump right in?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm thinking we start on level 3?"
"Cool, yeah," Kairos articulated the command and the two gladiators materialized.
"Training level 3," the computer said, "Begin,"
They started advancing, and I hung to the right, taking a long swing on the right one, Kairos distracted the other one while my sword clashed against the one I'd engaged.
Luckily, it was slower, and easier to overpower.
I heard Kairos struggling, but I focused my energy, and once I had the upper hand I kicked the sword out of its robotic grasp and was about to land a killing blow when the simulation paused, I looked over, Kairos was on his side, the other gladiator's sword at his throat.
"Thanks for leaving me open, Gen, really helpful," he said, curt.
"Your job as a close-range fighter is to never let your enemy too close to your range fighters," came Lance's voice from the observation deck.
I turned to look, and I saw him and Keith there, they'd been watching us the whole time.
"And don't forget to move as much as possible Kairos, getting every angle on the enemy as possible to support your close-range fighter, don't let her drown in enemy forces," Keith said.
