"Alpha, Luna." Two people uttered our way as they approached us. Christian was seated in a chair, his arm propped on the arm rest and stroking his chin. He had made it a point to sit down, something which many of what seemed to be the more powerful alphas did. Alpha Hanson was relaxing a couple of feet away, exchanging greetings with everyone who bothered him.
Chris slipped his arm around my waist and drew me closer to the chair. I smiled down at him, letting my hand rest on his shoulder. Alpha Ben I-don't-remember-his-last-name was coming towards us, a smirk dancing in his lips. He was crazy for what he did yesterday; he was suicidal for coming back.
"Nice to see you again." He casually greeted, lacing his hand behind his back. The blue eyes never once looked at Christian, never once left my eyes. Not addressing us and especially Christian was going to get him killed.
"I'm not here to make any deals with you. I just wanted to get to know you and your pack more." He said, earning a growl from my mate. He was no longer lounging around but was sitting upright, his silver eyes piercing Ben's.
"We're strong and we don't take kindly to disrespect." Chris said before I could respond. I let one hand rest on his shoulder, trying to keep him from exploding. "That's all you need to know."
After what seemed like forever Ben looked at my mate. "Clearly. Tell me, when the rogues ruined your ceremony, why weren't your patrols there to stop them from breaking the boundary?"
"It was a faulty line." I interrupted. "Easy mistake."
"But it was for the new luna. Why would such a strong alpha feel the need to leave his pack unprotected on their most important day? Why would you leave your mate vulnerable to an attack knowing she was the target all along?"
I felt my stomach drop, but could only glare at the mutt in front of me. What man practically signs his own death sentence in such a cocky manner? Especially insulting me, insulting Christian. It was beyond belief, but it could only make me and my mate angry.
Chris suddenly jumped up, and I caught Mario's gaze across the room. Our beta was too busy negotiating with others, but the second Christians feet slapped against the wood, we both knew it'd take both of us to restrain him. Instantly he traipsed past many interested werewolves, joining us. Everybody's heads turned our way, watching as my mate towered over Ben. I grabbed Christian's hand, tugging him backwards.
Don't make a scene!
Christian grunted my way, glaring at the man in front of him. The room was completely silent, and remained so until my mate sat back down, eyeing Ben as he slowly back away. There was a smug look plastered across his face. He clearly got under the strongest alpha in the country's skin, and that was nothing short of a feat.
He sat back down, glaring at the man as he retreated into the sea of alphas. Instantly I felt his anger deep into my body through the mind link, and it burned my own consciousness.
"Lets all break for lunch." Hanson announced, glancing wearily between Chris and Ben. I nodded and tugged Chris to his feet, nodding to Mario before slipping out of the giant room.
I found the three of us walking outside in the gigantic gardens. Christian was in the middle, my hand looped in his and Mario pacing along beside us.
"Who is that mutt?" Christian hissed, stopping alongside a concrete bench hidden behind y'all bushes. I stopped beside Mario, watching Chris wearily. He both angry beyond measure and exhausted from the trouble that man was causing. I wanted to comfort him, make him happy and just forget all this drama for one second. We all needed that much right now.
Mario crosses his arms, peering over into the marble mansion once more.
"The real question is a why hasn't Hanson done anything yet? This man is chasing problem with one of his strongest allies; why risk a nobody for someone like us?"
That was one of the better questions. Why did Hanson invite him, and when he noticed the mutt was targeting us, why did he do nothing to stop it. Our pack is the strongest in the country. Losing someone like us would probably be the death of his.
I shook my head, falling down beside Christian. He was still seething, glaring at the ground. "The real question is why does he have a fascination with you?" He turned to me, silver eyes boring into mine.
"I don't know, Chris."
All these questions and no answers. Suddenly this trip was becoming very frustrating, and I wasn't happy about it. This was supposed to be my first official outing with Christian, my first event in front of other packs as the Luna of the Bade pack. I didn't want it to be ruined by some ignorant asshole.
Mario sighed and just started back towards the house. I turned to Chris, letting my head rest on his shoulder.
"This was how I expected this trip to turn out." I admitted to him, messing with his fingers. I wanted to make him feel better, wanted to make the other guy leave this stupid alphas ball entirely. Instead we were here and he was out there.
Christian laughed, looking at me. "I expected it to go a lot more smooth too." His voice was both bitter and historical. Christian slipped his hand around my waist, stroking my back in soothing waves. The sparks trailed wherever his fingertips touched, and I shuttered in pleasure.
I looked up at him, letting my chin rest on his shoulder. "At least if it's gonna be chaos, you're gonna be there right with me."
There was an eruption of chuckled that came from him, and instantly I could tell he wasn't as focused on the whole thing anymore. I smiled at him, watching his eyes crinkle at the sides.
I grabbed his cheek and pulled his face my ways, gently reaching up and placing my lips on his. Chris laughed into my kiss, making me laugh alongside him. His hands wrapped behind my back, pulling me even closer to him. I turned completely, leaning into him until it felt like there was no divide between us. Christians hand slid up my back and onto my cheek, pulling me back just a little bit.
I was gasping for air, my forehead pressed against his. Anytime he kissed me, I always found myself at a loss for air, for words. It was exhilarating and scary, knowing he had this much power over me.
"I love you, Lena." He whispered. His breath was warm against my lips, and it took all I had not to kiss him again, rip off his close right here.
Smiling, I closed my eyes and gave a soft hum of approval. Despite how much I hated this man in the beginning, he has become my entire world. There's nothing I wouldn't give for him anymore, nothing I wouldn't do in his name. He was worth everything, and as cheesy as it was, he was the one person I loved the most in this world.
And our baby.
