"Stop!" I giggled, trying and failing to push Christian off my body. His lips were trailing up and down my bare body, grinning at my attempt to escape. I grabbed his shoulders, trying to use them to pull my body out from under his.

Finally he laughed and fell beside me. His head was pressed against my stomach, using it as a pillow. Happily, I let my fingers twist and comb the brown locks, staring at the roof.

After the past few days, this was exactly what I needed. We spent the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday doing some negotiations, making connections and doing all the official business alphas needed to do. It was exhausting, and trying to memorize everybody's names was especially difficult.

Tonight was the actual ball. It was the night I got to dress up and play cinderella, the night I get to spend with Christian and only him. In all honesty there was nothing more exciting about the entire trip other than that. Plus, tonight I was gonna tell him I was pregnant, that he was gonna be a father and our pack was going to have an heir.

He was going to be beyond ecstatic.

He looked up at me, silver eyes wide as he sat up. my hands fell from his hair, instead resting on his bicep.

"Do you hear that?"

I sat up, pulling the blanket over my body. Hear what? All I could hear was his breath, and since all the walls were soundproof, there wasn't much else to listen to.

Christian jumped out of the bed, slipping on his boxers and traipsing about the room. My eyes followed, completely confused at whatever he was doing.

"Chris, there's nothing here." I stood up, reaching for my underwear and his shirt. Quickly I slipped those on, rolling up the sleeves and grabbing his arm. "You're hearing things."

All he did was shake his head, flicking his gaze about the room. Finally he turned to me, eyebrows fully scrunched together. I raised an eyebrow, watching him focus on me.

"It's you." What was me?

"Chris—"

"I can hear the heartbeats. Yours, and another's. And it's coming directly from," he started forward, placing his pointer finger on my stomach. "Here."

My mouth fell open slightly. He figured it out. How the hell did he figure it out! I was supposed to tell him, not let him figure it out without me!

He watched me for a second, before falling back. "But you knew, didn't you?"

I couldn't do anything. No words could escape my lips, not even air was passing into my lungs. It seemed like the world froze around me, and all I could feel was the growing fury in my mates eyes.

"Christian-"

"You know this entire time, and you didn't tell me?" I watched him suddenly fall apart, all at my hands. He backed away further, giving us five feet in between each other as he searched for something to say. I tried to find the words, but I couldn't force any.

"It was selfish, yes, but I was scared. I didn't want to sit back and watch you fight my war."

That was the wrong thing to say.

His eyes met mine, now boiling in anger. I found myself at a loss for words. Never have I been the subject of his wrath, not like this. He's been angry at me before, but the look in his eyes just pure hate.

Only I could manage to make the one person who loved me most hate me so strongly.

"Lena, you're pregnant! There's a baby growing inside you and you wanted to risk it's life because you wanted to fight!"
