Jaxon
"Dude when are you going to break up?" Jesse asked me.
I couldn't help but laugh.
"I'm not breaking up with her." I said, looking away from the computer screen.
"But it's been like three months already."
I glared at him. It was typical Jesse to poke his nose into everything.
"She's different though, she's not like the other girls." I explained.
I got up from my seat at the computer, and went into the kitchen, Jesse following close behind.
"You say that about every girl you've ever met."
He was exaggerating a little, but he still had a valid point.
But this time I really actually meant it. She was different. There was just something unique about her. She was kind, funny, and sweet. She didn't judge me, and she didn't try to be someone, something that she's not. In some way she had changed me for the better. I wanted to be a better man for her, not just her, but for myself too.
We share the love of basketball, which was really great, considering that I had never had a sibling or anyone that I could play with. Now I had Sam.
Sam is a great basketball player. The way she moves with the ball, the way she moves without it is phenomenal. The way she shoots the ball is fantastic. She is just an all around great player. You never really see good players from a small town like Schuyler. Players that could play college basketball anyways. She could play at any college she wanted, and everyone in town knows it.
We usually play basketball at my house. She works on driving to the basket while being guarded by a post. I work on my ball handling skills, because I'm tall and can't really handle the ball all that well. She insists that I not take it easy on her. She says that since she is short she has to play tall. Which is a good way of thinking because she was definitely short, 5'0 if that.
I tower over her, being 6'5. She doesn't even go to my shoulder. I love her height though, it makes her even cuter, if that is even possible. I love the way that she can't reach things in her cabinets, so she had to climb on counters, or have me help her. I loved her tiny hands, and how they fit into mine. There was at least a two inch dfference betweem their hands. Most of all I loved the way that when they kissed she had to stand on her tippy toes, and I had to bend down. She was a good kisser, a really good one. She was so little, but there was so much to love.
Of course there is more to her than her cute height. She cares about me, and doesn't just use me for sex. She isn't afraid to wear sweat pants in front of me, or not wear makeup. Which is nice because half of the girls in the school wouldn't even think about being seen without makeup on.
"She is definitely different than the others." I finally said after a long moment of thought.
"Whatever." He rolled his eyes.
We have been best friends since kindergarten. As kids they were together all the time. Every single weekend we are at each others houses. As we grew older, we grew apart, but still are best friends. Unlike me, Jesse isn't very active, in fact he is very lazy. The only sport he plays is baseball in the spring. I grabbed an apple from fruit bowl sitting on the table. I wiped it with my shirt, then took a bite from it.
"Where is Sam anyway, don't you too have a date or something?" Jesse questioned.
"I have to go pick her up, her car wouldn't start this morning."
~~~~~Sam~~~~~
I listened closely from the top of the stairs, but this time I couldn't understand the screams. They were probably fighting about money, or the nurse. I had figured out her name. It was Jessica, but still I preferred "The Nurse."
I took a few steps down the stairs.
"She's not living with you, she's staying with me!" My mom shouted at my father.
He cleared is throat before speaking.
"You don't get to make that decision Denise, she does." he calmly said.
He was a lot calmer than her mom. It had always been that way. It probably had something to do with the fact that he was a surgeon and had to be good under pressure.
She let out a loud sigh that was almost a scream. I heard her walk towards the bathroom, then the door slam.
I walked down the rest of the stairs. Dad was sitting at the bar with his head in his hands. He looked up at me, tears in his eyes. He quickly wiped them away. He gave me a smile, clearly fake.
"Hey babe." he said, his voice cracking a little bit.
I silently waved, then stared at him. I don't hate him. Most people would hate the parent that cheated, but I don't hate either of them. I don't think that it is right to hate anyone, people make mistakes right?
"Do you still love mom?" I asked out of the blue.
"Of course I do."
His eyes filled with shock.
"Then why'd you cheat on her?" I asked, taking a seat next to her.
It had been bugging me for the past months, but I just couldn't bring myself to ask him. He didn't answer, instead he moved his chair closer to me. He let out a sigh before he started to speak.
"Well awhile ago your mom and me got into a huge argument."
"What about?" I questioned.
He looked down at the counter.
"Umm..." he stalled
"Well I had this fling with Jessic-." I cut him off before he could finish.
"The nurse." I corrected
"Ya then she found out that she was pregnant, so here we are."
Once again he started staring at the counter.
"Dad answe-."
I was cut off by the ringing of the doorbell. Great timing Jaxon. I looked angrily at him before turning towards the door.
I grabbed my purse that was sitting on the bottom of the stair case. I opened the door, then quickly slammed it. It seemed like these days there was a lot of door slamming. I ran into Jaxon.
"Whoa." he said placing his arms on my shoulders and slightly pushing me back.
I went into his over sized arms immediately, on the verge of tears.
"Are they fighting again?"
I nodded my head.
"He won't tell me why he cheated on her."
He released me, then we started walking towards the car.
He opened up my door.
"Are you sure that you want to know?" he asked me before I got into the car.
