Chapter 6: Bad Influence

Tuesday night I went to the meeting and saw Carla, we talked about how my life has been rough lately and she invited me to come over to her place sometime. I took that into consideration because she lives in the same complex as Erick. Later that night I spent the night talking to Erick and he sent me a link to one of their new songs called Day by Day. That song was the shit but I fell asleep listening to it.

When I woke up I got a message from Erick asking if I wanted to meet up and I said yeah. We agreed to meet at 1 but I ended up having to go do an errand with my grandma and by the time we got back it was almost 3. I hit him up apologizing for not being there and he had been busy too. He wanted to go to the pool so he told me to take 10 bucks, it was the realest struggle to get that 10 though.

I asked my uncle for 5 and he gave me 4, my moms boyfriend would give me the 10 if I gave him a five, My mom had a five but she wanted 5 ones and I only had 4. My grandpa ended up being the life saver because he had a dollar in hidden in a bottle. I get home before 4 and was about to walk to meet Erick up when my mom says she's leaving with her boyfriend, Santos, to buy crabs. I ask for a ride and she said okay because she passes by his complex.

I told my mom I was going to the pool with Carla so she gives me until 6 to be out. She drops me off and I walk into some random building to make her think that I was going to Carla's and when her car is no where in sight I walk out and to this park Erick and I had passed on our way to his place the first time.

We hug and kiss and he asks me if I listened to his song and I nod, "Yeah I fell asleep listening to it."

We walked to his place and stand outside his building, he looks up from his phone and then down to me, "Did you bring the 10?"

I nod.

"Cool, you about to get smacked," he says grinning hard and getting excited.

I look down at my shoes and then start to get nervous, "What."

He starts scrolling through his contacts, "I need to find a connect and Pancho isn't replying."

I suddenly understood what was going on and realized we weren't going anywhere near the pool.

"You nervous?" he asked still smiling.

I had no words because first of all I was about to go do weed after I promised Hilda my first time would be with her. Second I was nervous and telling him would only get him even more intrigued.

He leaned in, "Awhhh you nervous!"

Why I didn't kick him right then and there is beyond my understanding, "Nah."

He leaned in closer, "Did you like the song?"

"Yeah," I had no where to go because I was now pressed up against the brick wall.

He was now hovering over me, "Did you listen to the words."

"Maybe," sure as hell he knew that those words hit me hard.

We kiss and then he gives up on trying to get a connect and goes inside the building. He tells me to follow him and this time we don't go to the laundry room, we actually stay in his apartment. I walk in and stand there awkwardly and he gestures me to sit on the couch. He walks around I guess looking around for something, then he tell me to follow him into his room.

I walk in and there's two beds since he shares the room with his sisters. He sits on the bed and connects his phone to some stereo type of thing there and pats on the bed, "Come on... sit down."

I walk over and sit next to him watching him scroll through his music. He plays a few beats and starts rapping, he tells me those are the ones he's working on with Wise. Then he puts on the music to his song and starts singing it, his voice was better in person and I was having fun listening to him rap. He stops the music and turns to face me, "This song seems so depressing when you think about."
