THREE hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

"I CANNOT LEAVE MY QUEENDOMS ALONE," ALMA HISSED UNDER HER BREATH, HER FACE CAREFULLY COMPOSED ALTHOUGH HER EYES HELD A DEADLY GLINT AS SHE BURSTED INTO THE THRONE ROOM.

A ragged man stood before Caspian, who had a fierce expression as well. The man turned, bloodied and beaten, he immediately fell at her feet with a cry, "Oh, Your Imperial Highness!"

"Who is responsible for this?" Her voice was deathly calm, barely shielding the anger. "What happened?"

"It was awful, madam!" He cried. "It was the dead of the night—" Alma noted it was about four in the morning, then again, it took three hours to get here... two if it was on a fast horse. "—when they came! They searched the knight quarters first, and took out all they could!"

"Then how did you get out?"

"I pretended I was dead, madam," His shoulders shuddered in remembrance. "It was the Calormenes."

Alma's eyes immediately narrowed, "How did you come to know it was Calormene?"

He looked fearful, "My Queen, there were fifteen Calormenes that were caught trespassing at the borders of Pembrall, the day you departed for Narnia."

"And I was not informed," She shared a look of anger with Evan, before glancing at the messenger. "Who orchestrated the arrest?"

"It was Lord Clermont, Your Grace," He grabbed her hand suddenly. Of course. The man who was the author of all the doubts against her ruling would be the cause of this. "He thought they could handle it. They brought them to the dungeons, leaving them there for when you are due to return..."

"Diversion," Alma murmured under her breath, withdrawing her hand and began pacing, her clean hand clenching and unclenching. "If fifteen had been apprehended, it would've taken all of the border guards, leaving some entrances empty and unguarded."

"When do we leave?" Evan inquired, recognizing the look on his sister's face.

"Now. The Queensguard may not be able to hold them off for long if they brought more. It doesn't matter that it is two countries fighting one, we have no knowledge if Calormene had more from another kingdom," Her mind was racing, already imagining ways they could reclaim the castle. "Any second later and there will be more lives lost. We must reclaim the castle before they move on to the villages."
