Jack and Luce's apartment was a gigantic penthouse with the best view in the whole facility. How they managed to score it, I have no idea. But I'm sure it has to do with Luce flashing her puppy eyes at the right person. We took the elevator up and knocked on the door. Nobody answered.

"They said meet here right?" I asked Theo after a few minutes, who had pulled out his phone and began to text Jack. "Here and not the lab?"

"I'm pretty sure that's what they said." Theo replied, "If he doesn't answer in five minutes, let's just go in."

"That's not a great idea."

"Taya I'm starving. I haven't eaten anything today except coffee and an apple. My fingers are starting to look like sausages." Theo waved his fingers in front of my face and licked his lips.

My stomach grumbled. I'd given Campion my training snacks and hadn't taken Luce up on her offer of cup-o-noodles. And since Luce and Jack were hosting tonight, I could only imagine what wonderful thing we'd be having. They were both insane cooks. Where they picked that up after spending over fifteen years in here, I have no idea.

"Okay, I'm going in." Theo said, snapping his fingers. A portal appeared through the door, and he put one foot inside. "Doesn't look like anybody's home. Oh well, we can wait in here." We both stepped through as the portal closed behind us.

The air was warm and sweet, Luce's flowers hung from every inch of the ceiling and on the walls. Jack's vintage clock collection filled an entire side of the living room. The tan and grey furniture was pristine, as well as all of the colorful rugs. There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere, not even a smudge on the television or the mirrors. Theo and I headed out to the balcony, taking a seat in the reclinable wicker chairs.

Classical music played from somewhere in the house, and it smelled like roses, which Luce never grew in the apartment.

"Can you hear that?" I asked Theo sitting up. The music rose and fell as the movement progressed.

"And the roses?" Theo added, plucking a rogue one off of the ground.

"You don't think?" I trailed off, just as Theo opened a portal into Luce and Jack's bedroom.

He stuck his head through and immediately pulled it out, shutting the portal quickly. His eyes flashed with surprise, and the corner of his mouth twisted into a naughty grin. "A man needs what a man needs." he said with a shrug. "It's been awhile since they were both home."

"No love lost between them I guess." I said with a smirk.

One of the lab techs once asked me why we had all broken up into couples, and I guess it never crossed my mind before that it was sort of strange. But we spent all of our time together, and it wasn't like we really had any opportunity to meet anybody else. Luce and Jack had been together longer than any of us, it's almost been eight years since they made it official. Everyone except Luce knew that Jack always carried a ring in his back pocket, he'd been planning for the perfect moment for years, and for Luce, he'd make sure everything would be right. Navi and Sam followed them with six years, and then Theo and I with five, although we'd kept our relationship on the down low for a little bit longer than that. The only ones who weren't exactly official were Charlie and Roo. I mean, when we all paired off it sort of left them together, but their relationship was less personal than it was professional. They loved each other sure, but much more platonically than romantically.
