Welcome back! I hope you enjoy, yes, another Campion chapter. What has gotten into me? Just kidding.

In the last chapter, I got a lot of comments (two) about Ellamona and I agree. She seems sneaky, better keep an eye on her.  But let's not forget about Baylor and his nefarious plan.

Thank you to the 1.385 of you like to read this story as much as I do. I love you and you are the reason I write!

Happy Reading!

---------------

"What were you dreaming about?" Ellamona was sitting in a chair at the end of my bed, hands folded in her lap, black shawl wrapped around her shoulders. It was still night. The hum of the inhibitor buzzed in my ears, there was a draft coming from the open window. I pulled my sheet closer to my body as I shivered.

"I don't remember" I replied, which was a lie. "Why are you here?" I tried to sit up on my bed, but instantly she rose and put her hand on mine, stopping me.

It had been nearly a month since our first meeting, strangely, there was no real talk of my abilities besides her scolding Professor Baylor for doing everything wrong. She made me eat more food, lots more. She was constantly weighing me, and measuring me, and looking unsatisfied. But then yesterday, while I was eating my third lunch, I overheard her talking to Baylor about some revelation she'd made, how it was going to change everything.

"Don't. You're hurt. You need to rest." her steely eyes turned soft as she knelt next to me.

"Hurt?" I felt fine. My legs, my arms, my head. I was fine. I tried to sit up, but this time she gently pushed me back down. I hadn't done anything strenuous yesterday. She made me run a few dozen miles in the morning, but the rest of the day I had to myself to read in my room.

"Your body's re-acclimating. Adjusting, rather, to the medication." she swept a tendril of her white blonde hair behind her ear. I noticed a small mark on her neck, right below her ear.

"I don't need medicine, I feel-" Her hand went to my face, two fingers on my forehead and her thumb on my chin, forcing it open. Her other hand was on my chest. Suddenly there was a loud noise and a burst of light poured out of my eyes and mouth, I was having an out of body experience, a nightmare I was sure of. But when it was over, everything hurt like I was drowning in boiling water. I groaned and crumpled myself into a ball, shutting my eyes closed tightly.

Ellamona smiled, she sat at the edge of my bed, not caring that I recoiled. "You are powerful," she said, her cold hands running down my cheek. Her eyes seemed to glimmer against the darkness of the room. "It's all in there, waiting to be harnessed. Waiting to be controlled. Waiting for me." she trailed off. She brought my hand up to her lips and kissed it, whispering something I couldn't quite make out.

She stood, still grinning like mad, and wiped her hands on her shawl, took a few steps toward the door and stopped. "Tomorrow. Tomorrow we begin."

----------

The guards came and got me, just like every other morning. Unlike every other morning, I was bruised from head to toe, probably thanks to Ellamona and her mysterious midnight visit. It was a pain I wasn't used to, like my bones were expanding and pushing and pulling. My heart was beating too fast, it wasn't like this normally was it? I was sweaty and pale. I was a mess thanks to her.

They hauled me down to the bunker and sat me down at a long table with a white tablecloth. Ellamona sat at the head on the other side. There was no food on the table, rather random containers, plates, and platters of things. Wood, stone, water, plants, a mouse, a circuit. I knew of this test, I'd read of it many times before.
