Rose sat up groggily the next morning, forgetting where she was for a moment. When she realized it was a Tuesday and she was expected at school in an hour and a half, she flopped backwards and rolled onto her stomach to scream into the pillow under her head.

With a sigh, Rose pulled herself out of bed and began to get herself ready for school. Although she didn't feel different, there had been a monumental change in her life and she felt like the little girl who had been left behind all over again. It was hard to believe that some of the ghosts from her past had resurfaced to haunt her again.

She was just grabbing the lunch she had made for herself the night before when her phone pinged with a notification.

Hey! On my way to school and stopping at Tims! D'you want me to pick up a coffee or anything for you? ~Yasmin

Rose stared at her phone for a minute, shocked that she had a friend that would offer to get her a coffee. It hadn't happened for years.

Sure! Could you grab me an iced coffee? ~Rose

Knowing she had to get going, she grabbed her wallet, keys, and a protein bar for breakfast.

"Goodbye house!" She called over her shoulder as she ran out to her car.

Despite running late, Rose still arrived to school half an hour before class started and she was able to get her favourite parking spot. There were no insane crowds in the hallways, so Rose was able to make it to her locker without feeling suffocated.

She was surprised to see Yasmin already there, sporting her leather jacket and holding two Tim Hortons cups.

"I'm starting to understand why you come to school so early." She said, holding out the iced coffee for Rose to take. "It's so quiet, it's almost spooky." She looked around her and shivered, taking a sip of the hot coffee in her hands.

"It's a pretty good time to think, the only people here are teachers. Everyone else is going to come in like 15 minutes and it'll be a zoo in here, just wait." Rose answered, hanging her bag in her locker and grabbing her History binder, laptop, and sketchbook.

"Can I look through your sketchbook?" Yasmin asked, her dark brown eyes sparkling with curiosity as she eyed the leather-bound book in Rose's arms.

"Not this one, I'll bring the one you can look through tomorrow" Rose held the book closer to her chest, shielding it from her new friend.

"Why can't I see this one?" Yasmin asked as she brushed her long, dark hair behind her ear, her eyes squinting in suspicion.

"It's nothing, I just don't like to show people anything unfinished and there are some personal drawings in here." She smiled shyly at the taller girl and tucked her own auburn hair behind her ear.

Yasmin nodded, still looking at Rose with suspicion.

The two girls went slowly on the way to their classroom as there was no rush to get there. They waited outside of the class and talked a little more, getting to know each other better.

"Your hair colour is so pretty! I wish mine was like that." Yasmin stated, tugging at her own dark locks with a pout.

"Thanks" Rose said, a small blush lighting up her cheeks.

"I have this wild desire to just dye my hair a crazy colour sometimes and it's hitting me hard right now." Yasmin chuckled, eyeing Rose suspiciously when she noticeably perked up.

"I could do it! We could dye your hair, it would be fun!" Rose was suddenly very animated, grabbing Yasmin's arm with puppy eyes.

"Really? You know how to do it properly?" Yasmin looked dubious.
