Is a family still relevant in the modern world?

"NO." Y/n stared at him, brows furrowed. Peter pleaded with her, watching as she continued to take down each of the space ships. He'd grown bored of constantly playing Tetris and had now been stuck waiting for the girl to finish playing the game that she'd been playing ever since they arrived at the arcade.

He frowned at her, crossing his arms. "C'mon, I want to try and beat you at Mario Kart!" She shook her head, chewing on her tongue in between her teeth in a thoughtful notion. Peter noticed other kids building up a line behind her. Knowing that she'd probably get revenge, he grabbed the red knob and twisted it to the left, crashing her into an enemy and killing her.

The girl instantly opened her mouth to let out a loud whine, but was stopped when Peter pulled her aside and gestured for the kid to go on. Her mouth clamped shut as she realized how many people were waiting on her. He dragged her away from the line, bringing her to some kind of basketball arcade game.

"Sorry," She quietly mumbled, taking the basketball and tossing it to the ring of circles. The orange ball miraculously rolled into the forty point ring, but Y/n was too upset at herself to care. The rain drizzled down at a faster pace, making Peter frown as his spider hearing picked up on it.

He rubbed her shoulder in a comforting manner. "Hey, it's not your fault. I'd be caught up in a game like that too." The senior reassured her with a big smile, her returning the beaming grin. She simply forgot all about it, but the slight wedge of guilt still lingered. She tossed up the basketball again, sending it directly into the fifty point ring.

Peter smiled, watching her get back into her usual swing of things. He continuously tossed basketballs, obviously beating her in the end. She stuck her tongue out at him, giggling softly. "Spider powers give you a boost, huh, arachnid freak?" He chuckled at her, rolling his eyes. He cracked smile, "Not very much, no."

Y/n raised a brow, brushing back a strand of her h/c bang. "Oh, really?" Picking up a basketball, she played with it. Peter grew confused, but didn't really pay attention, walking around and stopping at another arcade game with a curious gaze. Swish. He quickly spun around, the stray basketball landing in the palm of his right hand.

She smirked at him, shifting her weight to one specific leg with a smug look on her face. "It didn't give you a boost?" He rolled his eyes at her, rolling the basketball back into the gutter that they spawned from. Peter grinned at her, ruffling her damp hair as she frowned. Her eyes lightened up at some flashing lights behind him.

He watched the expression grow on her face, cheeks tinting pink at her cute expression. "DDR," She pushed him aside, but he quickly latched onto her hand. She whipped around to face him for a second, cheeks growing red. Her brows furrowed for a second and she loosened his grip on her, tugging her fingers out of his grasp.

A small pout grew on his lips and a pang of pain hit his heart, but he tried his best to ignore it. Following after her, she led the both of them to a Dance Dance Revolution machine. Y/n took some coins from the cup that Peter held in one hand, slipping it into the slot and pressing one of the songs.

He couldn't help, but widen his eyes in awe. She'd chosen the hardest song and managed to keep up with all of the beats. In the end, she got the highest score and a standing ovation from the small crowd that had approached over time. "How did you do that?" Peter said breathless because of pure wonder.

"Um, my Dad would always be so busy. Since I'd go exploring a lot, I stumbled upon an arcade and became obsessed with DDR. In a sense, it was my solace." His eyes softened at that. Taking a look outside, the rain had lightened considerably. "Ready to head home now?" Peter asked, smiling in a considering manner.

She smiled at him with a small nod. Taking a look around, a lot of the kids that had partied and jollied around before were walking away, sleeping in their parents' holds or clinging onto their hands. "Yeah, home sounds great," She smiled thankfully at him, pulling her gray hoodie close to her as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and guided her out.

Instead of becoming Spidey, Y/n turned him down once he was halfway to an alley. "I don't want Spidey to take me home," She averted her eyes before looking back up at him with a slightly newfound confidence. "I want Peter Parker to take me home." His grin widened at that as his cheeks turned pink again.

He took her, calling over a taxi quickly with a few waves of his hand. The taxi soon pulled up, asking for a location in the usual thick New York accent. Within a few minutes, the address was pulled up on the GPS and the driver was set on driving. She took a look out the window, a small smile adorning her face.

She shivered lightly, catching Peter's attention. "Are you cold?" The girl shook her head with another brilliant beam. Y/n ran a hand through her slightly dry hair. "No, I'm fine." He nodded at her, taking a peek out the window again. Soon enough, the taxi parked at the hotel and Peter paid the taxi fee to which Y/n promised to pay back once they got inside.

Of course, Peter couldn't protest since the look in her eyes told him that she wouldn't take no as an answer. Entering the hotel room that he'd now grown familiar with, she pulled open a drawer and handed some cash to him with a warm grin. "That's the exact amount, right?" He nodded, smiling. "Y-Yeah, yeah. it is."

He walked towards the door, but was quickly stopped when she latched her hand onto his wrist, kissing his cheek. She winked and gave a genuine smile, "Thank you for today. Night, Peter."

The boy waved shyly, eyes still wide in shock even after she closed the door. " . . . Night. . . "
