"You should have SEEN it, Laurance!"

"Y-You're making it c-cooler than it--"

"I don't care, Garroth. You were awesome!"

"I did, like, nothing..."

"You stood up to Gene! You call that nothing?!"

"I knew you had it in ya, G!"

"You guys are overreacting."

"You should have seen Gene's face."

"What are you even talking about anymore? I'm not threatening!"

"He was so shocked and it was so funny!"

"That's my boy!"

"Ugg!"

I hit my head against the lunch table while Laurance and Aphmau laugh nearby. Aphmau's recounting our run-in with Gene to Laurance and over exaggerating everything that happened. Laurance knows this, but he's playing along to watch my frustration.

I'm actually kind of enjoying it.

"He totally beat up Gene, didn't he?" Laurance says, obviously joking. Aphmau giggles.

"Of course! He has a broken nose now."

I shake my head and lift it back up from the table.

"Don't be too loud or you'll call him over here," I tell them, grabbing an apple from off of my lunch tray.

"No, he won't." Laurance reaches across me to steal one of my chips. "He's terrified of you now."

"You're ridiculous." I roll my eyes and bite into the apple. Aphmau digs into her packed lunch and brings out a few packs of gummies.

"You guys want one?" she asks us.

"Oh my Irene, you're an angel." She tosses one to Laurance and he immediately tears into it, muttering a "thank you" with an already full mouth.

"How are you still hungry?"

He covers his mouth with his hand and says, "My stomach's a black hole. I love food."

"Then, learn to cook, you pig."

"Rude." He finishes his packet. "And I can cook, I just choose not to when other people already have food out. So, there."

"Whatever, Laurance."

"Do you want a pack, Garroth?" Aphmau holds one out to me.

"Uh, s-sure..." I take it. "T-Thank you."

"No problem!"

"So, really, Gene didn't do anything crazy to you guys, did he?" Laurance questions.

"No. Nothing huge," I answer. "Just the normal threatening."

Aphmau nods, looking down at the table. I'm reminded of what Sasha told her and I feel anger from earlier resurface.

If only I had the strength or courage to do something about it...

"You good, Aph?" Laurance asks, comfortable enough to use a nickname. She doesn't seem too bothered by it.

"Y-Yeah. Sasha just...gets on my nerves..."

My brain is screaming at me to comfort her somehow, but I don't know how, so I stay silent. I want to hug her again. So much.

"Sasha's real weird. Like, have you seen her eyes?"

"I know! Are those natural?"

"Who knows. She might just be possessed."

Aphmau giggles again and a small pang of jealousy hits me in the chest. I try to focus on my lunch.
