Twenty Three

It was a disaster.

Every. Single. Second.

Sure, I may be exaggerating a bit, but when I actually come to terms with the events that occurred after, you'll understand.

First of all, Sylvanna is not a fan of Aaron, as we found out, however, she respected that he was a...an acquaintance of ours and allowed him to stay.

Study session went pretty okay. Aaron is a freaking math whiz and if there's one upside to that day, it's that I can now understand basic trigonometry.

There were laughs. There were jokes. Overall there wasn't too much different other than the fact we had included another person.

To be totally honest, the day itself wasn't half bad.

It was the aftermath that threw a wrench into my life.

Now, before that day, I was pretty skeptical of Aaron and, as Laurance would say, jealous of the sudden extra person to steal Aphmau's attention. Less people in the group meant the more attention I received.

Although, throughout those four hours of working through homework and laughing, I actually learned that he's a pretty cool guy.

And thus, my walls came down and Aaron had begun to earn my trust.

However, what I failed to realize was how close he and Aphmau were becoming as well.

I only realized at school the next day.

Cue the sudden talkativeness, jokes directed to get a specific someone to laugh, and subtle flirting.

Needless to say, I was not the only person crushing on Aphmau anymore.

Suddenly, before I had a chance to even process what was happening, there was a charming, confident, and admittedly attractive man flirting with the girl I've been crazy about for the past four years.

Luckily for me, Aphmau is totally oblivious when it comes to these things, so I had a momentary feeling of peace.

That was a mistake.

I failed to contemplate how forward Aaron was when it comes to these things and, as it turns out, he does not like keeping his feelings bottled up like I do.

He told her he liked her a few days after our study session...

...and they went on a date.

So, as you can probably tell, my life's just peachy right now.

Knock knock...

It's just Laurance, so I don't bother getting up from my position on the bed. I just bury my nose further into my pillow, as if to suffocate myself, and hide in my cave of blankets.

This is my safe place. I can't get hurt in here.

"G—" The door creeks open— "school's in ten minutes."

I just groan in response and pull the blankets up higher over my head.

If I can't see him, he can't see me.

"You can't hide from her forever, you know," he says. I feel the mattress dip down, signaling that he's now sitting nearby.

"I can try." My voice is muffled by the pillow, but I think he gets what I'm saying.

"It was one date, Garroth. Just, like, an experiment, seeing if they could work out."

"And what if they do?" That question has been burning into my brain the entire weekend.
