After a bit of thinking the only conclusion I came to was either the knife or the light since they were the only things I had out when the creature had made attempts at my life and thus I decided to turn off the flashlight and save the batteries but the knife stayed out and at the ready. If the light really was what was keeping it away then it should make more attempts on my life but if it was the knife then it would maintain distance. In that moment I thank my deduction skills and take a deep breath as I look at the woods. Not really wanting to head into the creature's territory but understanding that if I want to save the guys I would have to. I lean against the wall and sigh, "Whatever the hell this thing is I need to be careful and keep my back safe. I can assume it'll do whatever it can to assure my death but I don't smell blood in the air meaning it must not eat the bodies, only crush them or knock out the people. If it was so strong it would've taken everyone in the house... but it didn't, meaning it has a weakness and my priority should be figuring out that weakness. So far I can assume it's light since it went for the fuse box to shut down the power to the house and at the same times it didn't attack... what am I missing? What is it that this creature is afraid of?" I ask myself as I ponder, keeping the knife at the ready, still feeling it's gaze on me but I remain calm as to not show weakness which might prompt it to strike. It was in a matter of a few seconds that I wonder if I'll be able to keep my promise to Jewlian and at that second of doubt there began an alluring clicking.
As the clicking persists I force myself to stay put, not wishing to follow the sound and more than likely die. Shaking my head I keep fighting the urge to be drawn to the sound as it eventually stops. "Why did it stop? Did it not see me struggling to resist it? Or could it be that it can only make that sound for so long? God, so many questions," I sigh to myself at the thoughts and questions now drumming away at my head. Looking around I notice something I hadn't before, the woods were silent, minus the sound of the trees and leaves in the wind, there was nothing. No crickets chirping, bats squeaking, or owls hooting. It was silent, as was this creature apparently. Sighing softly I decide to man up and start making my way into the wood, challenging an unknown entity in its territory as I think of how much I want to die in order to make this decision.
With a bit of caution and a sprinkle of alertness I've managed to make it part way through the woods without dying. So far the creature hasn't tried to attack me but everywhere I can feel its gaze on me, watching my every move and analyzing my every step and I could tell it was only a matter of time before it tried to kill me. Soon I come across one of the guys and calmly walk to him, checking his pulse. As I figured he was dead, it seems the creature snapped his neck and as I had predicted there were no claw marks, meaning one of two things. Either it can retract its claws on will or it couldn't stand the sight of blood but personally, I didn't want to find out which one was the right answer. I stand up as I look around and try to get a gauge on how far the house was but it was all in vain, the house being hidden by all the trees.
As I continued to wander the woods I heard frantic running and heavy breathing, however as I looked around I couldn't find the source and so, I turned on the flashlight to show my location. Soon after the running came to a stop and when I turned around I immediately regretted it. It was Devin, this guy is a total stuck up jerk who is full of himself. He was part of the football team which just made it worse because his type and my type don't mix well but I had never seen him like this before. Kneeling down next to him I ask him what happened but all I could hear was him mumbling with the occasional shudder. With a sigh I help him up but I knew we wouldn't make it back to the house until morning. With that I explained my theory so far about the creature to see if he would calm down and try to give me input, considering his mental state I figured he had a run in with it, but it was of no use as he just couldn't stop shaking, and almost as if he didn't hear me. "Could this thing be that horrifying or did it put him in a trance? We aren't in the position to check his psychological state and definitely not to relax and try to calm him. We need to keep moving," I thought to myself and so we continued on. Searching through the cold, dark woods after turning off the flashlight.
