My shoes made echoed clicking sounds as I quickly walked down the hallway. I placed my hand on the door handle and felt a hand press up the wall beside me and a male voice greeted me.
" Hey Monika. What are you up to baby girl? " The male said with a tone of amusement. I cringed back, narrowing my eyes at him with disgust. He kept the one-sided conversation. " Oh, come on, please talk to me. You can't ignore me forever you know! " The male reached out for my arm as I went for the door handle again. I reared my arm back and slapped him across the face, leaving a red hand print on his cheek.
" Don't speak to me anymore Shawn. " I said calmly, sighing and adjusting my shirt collar. " It's over between us and that is how it is. " Shawn crossed his arms and got between me and the door, slightly shoving me out of the way to do so. " Shawn-! " I tried to find my way around him.
" Your debate club paperwork can wait. I still want to know why you left me! " Shawn threw one hand forward as if trying to grab a lock of my hair, I veered backwards, nearly getting accidentally slapped across the face by him. " Stop...moving! " I quickly turned and made a v-line for the door, swinging it open and slamming it shut behind me.
I kept the door closed, hearing his voice on the other side. I closed my eyes and slightly slumped against the door as I heard him walk away with large, agitated strides. I looked up and saw a debate club member standing in front of me.
" I heard Shawn and you outside. Was he bothering you? " Gen straightened up, brushing his hand through his sandy blonde hair and holding his other hand out to me to get me to my feet. I bit my bottom lip and took his hand.
" No, it's fine. He was just being the way he usually is when he wants something. " I replied casually, gaining my step and walking to the debate club meeting table. I exhaled shakily. " I do have some news. " Everyone looked up quickly, focusing their attention to me.
" Did we finally get into the club competition this year? " A student asked from across the table. I shook my head, my eyes locked onto my hands that were shaking wildly under the table. I awkwardly looked up and gave a half hearten smile.
" I am leaving the Debate Club, for good. " I said quickly and notice the many expressions flash across the room. Disappointment, sadness, and some even look happy. I held out my club ID and slid it across the table to Gen. " I think you would make a better vice president for this club. Better than I could have been. " Gen's sky blue eyes looked into mine and her took the ID.
" Are you sure about this? You know, none can give a speech better than you could. " Gen said quietly, leaning his face close to my ear to whisper it to me. I kept my half smile on my face.
" I trust my decision and I hope you can too! " I said enthusiastically. " I know you all will continue strong. " I held my papers and placed them on the table. " These are the papers I was assigned to fill out before I left, so here you go. " Gen nodded at me and accompanied me across the room to the door.
" I guess I wont be seeing you here anymore. " Gen said with a hint of sadness in his voice. I frowned slightly and hugged him tightly.
" Gen, I couldn't have asked for a better club member. Thank you for letting me join this club. " I said with the most heartwarming tone I could before I let go. I waved goodbye to Gen and opened the door, leaving the club room in silence.
I exited the school, feeling the warm sun hit my face and make the day a little less aggravating. I held my bag over one shoulder and started walking down the school walkway until I was approached by a teacher.
" Monika, " The teacher called out to me and I turned around using my heels. " I have some good news for you! " The teacher handed me a paper and smiled at me, her teeth had a slight overbite to them.
" What is this? " I asked, inspecting the laminated piece of paper. It was a club opening advertisement for the school board. My eyes looked up at the teacher, my brows raised, and my lips with a small smile. " A club opening? "
" Correct! You can file a club if you want, since I saw you when you left the debate club. Wonderful words of encouragement by the way, Monika. " The teacher stated, pointing at the paper as if expecting me to agree to make a club. I sighed and the teachers eyes looked at me eagerly.
" I have always wanted to make a, " I paused before continuing, " -a Literature club. " The teachers eyes lit up and she happily handed me a key.
" Room A-22, here's the keys, decorate it however you want as long as it's safe! " The teacher said quickly, I barely could catch her words. " Please, at least three other members before you start large advertisements around the school. " With that final sentence, the teacher strode off to her car, got in and started it, then driving off. I looked down at the paper. I began thinking of names as I began walking home, holding the paper.
" Doki Doki Literature Club, " I said quietly to myself. " That name may just work..! " I smiled to myself holding the paper up at eye level. I walked up to my front door, unlocking it and walking inside. I placed the paper on a bulletin board by my door and heading to the shower.
