Woman on the plane
I am a flight attendant. Usually the scary things people associate with flying is some bad turbulence or regret from watching that air crash investigations special before your flight to London. As i am pretty much on planes 24/7 , those things never bother me; a little bit of turbulence during a thunderstorm or when the electrical systems go haywire for a few moments is nothing to what i experienced that one flight. Lets get to it.
It was one of my long shifts; a 15 hour flight. On longer flights, cabin crew get a compartment underneath the general seating area which features a small private area for each attendant with a bed to sleep on. This compartment is not visible to passengers as it requires a code to open the door and access this area; which only the cabin crew know.
So as usual my shift finished and i made my way down to our cabin crew area. i punched in the code and the door opened and made my way to my compartment. I drew the curtain back and saw a woman sitting on my bed, she seemed worried but almost relieved to see me.
"I feel really sick can you help me?" she asked
I was dumb founded and so confused; how the hell did she get into our compartment? How could she possibly know the code? Unless some idiot on shift didn't close the door and she followed them down. It was weird.
"Excuse me ma'am how on earth did you get down here? You need a certain combination to open the door, how did you get here without anyone noticing? You must go back to your seat."
She stared at me, worried.
"I feel so sick, can you please go get my husband? I was worried and i came here looking for help."
I was so confused, why didn't she just ask one of the flight attendants upstairs instead of coming down here?
I continued to tell her she shouldn't be here and i will go walk her to her husband and ask if there was a doctor on the flight who could examine her better than i ever could. She just seemed nauseous, nothing serious i assumed considering she didn't tell me specifically what was wrong when i asked her, she just continued the "i feel sick."
"You must go get my husband, he will help, i don't think i can make it up there. Can i please just lie here while you go get him?"
I thought for a moment, would it really matter if she stayed here for a few minutes? I didn't want to humiliate her in front of passengers. It wasnt like she was violent or anything, she was just a little elderly lady who felt sick. So i decided id go get her husband for her. She told me the seat number he was in, what class he was sitting and what he looked like. She also gave me her name, which i will not disclose for privacy reasons. Lets call her Abby.
So i left her in my compartment and told her not to move, i closed the door behind me and made sure it was secure shut so no other passengers could get into our private area.
I walked through the cabin and eventually came to the seat number she gave me, with a man she described to me with black hair, brown eyes and glasses, wearing a blue striped t shirt. He was sitting next to an empty seat which i assumed was hers.
"Sir, sorry for interrupting but i have just come to get you as your wife Abby is in my cabin saying she doesn't feel well. She would like you to come down and help her."
The man stared at me shocked, upset and almost disgusted. he then replied:
"My wife Abby is dead and her body is being carried on the plane back home."
I went and checked if the woman was still in my compartment; she was gone.
