I woke up in a cold sweat. The nightmare was still fresh in my mind. I had seen my mother and she had said some pretty crazy things. None of it made any sense. She had apologised. Apologised for what? And then I had seen a werewolf with red eyes and had felt death in his presence. It was all so confusing. It was probably only a dream but it had all seemed so real.

I decided to go to the kitchen for a glass of water. My clock read that it was 6am which meant I had definitely missed dinner. Today was the mission. I was still in my shorts and t-shirt from yesterday as I made my way down the stairs and to the kitchen. It was completely dark as I felt around for the light switch. That's when I heard a movement and then the sound of glass shattering and I froze. Someone was here.

I faintly remembered where the knives were in the kitchen from examining it earlier. I began to move ever so slowly, careful to not make any sound. Whoever the person was, they hadn't made another sound so I was sure they knew I was here. I dragged my hands along the walls as I guided myself through the pitch black kitchen. When my hip bumped the counter, I reached over for the knives, pulling one out.

I gripped my hand tightly around the handle, lifting it up in front of my face as I then proceeded to find the other person in the room. I had only taken a few steps before I felt a breath fanning the back of my neck. Spinning around, I dug the knife deep into flesh and the person screamed.

The lights soon after flickered on and I found Jason screaming on the floor, a knife buried in his arm. Holly was beside the light switch, staring at her brother in horror.

"What the fuck Jade?" Jason screamed at me in agony.

"Me? What the fuck Jason?" I yelled back. "Who the fuck hides in the dark from a hunter?"

"We were surprising you dipshit!" Holly held out a cake with messy writing written happy birthday. "We spent all night making this to surprise you!"

"It's not my birthday till six days."

"We decided to surprise you earlier. Why not spend your birthday in Boise? We wanted it to be special." Holly rolled her eyes.

"Hey guys! Knife in my arm here!" Jason yelled, bringing our attention back to him withering on the floor. Holly reached over and pulled the knife right out of his arm, achieving another gruesome scream from Jason.

"Fuck you Holly!" He yelled.

"Stop crying like a baby. It's just a knife."

"You don't pull knives out of people!" Jason snapped at her, getting to his feet. His long sleeved shirt was torn and now soaked in blood above his arm. He shot us both a glare. "I'm going to go fix this all up."

"Don't drip blood on the carpet or I will get Jade to stab you again!" Holly called after him, just to piss him off. We heard him cursing furiously as he made his way up the stares, shouting out death threats every now and then.

"Um, thanks?" I smiled and she giggled.

"Happy 18th Jade." Holly wrapped an arm around me as we proceeded to eat some cake.

"Isn't it great?" Holly chomped noisily as she ate the cake.

"Yeah..." I wasn't convinced as I found nearly half an eggshell in it. "How exactly did you not break this eggshell yet see it when you could spot a werewolf a mile away?"

"Must have slipped my mind." She took the eggshell from me, hiding it behind her. I wasn't so sure about the cake anymore.

"You can't cook for shit Hols." I shook my head, amused. It was even funnier when she actually looked offended.

"I'll have you know that my cake skills are better than those shit faces you see on Master Chef." She told me, sure of herself and I giggled.

"Ok Holly." I said, pushing my plate away, still not wanting to eat the horrible looking cake.

"I almost forgot!" Holly pushed over a box wrapped in puppy gift wrapping. I rolled my eyes at her joke while she sat there, proud of herself with a satisfied smile. I ripped off the wrapping and opened the box before shooting a glare at Holly.

"A dress?" She knew how much I hated anything that involved dresses or make up. I was a hunter, I didn't have time for this shit.

"Oh come on Jade, you needed one. Anyway this isn't just any dress, take it out." She ordered. I let out a sigh as I pulled the dress out. But I then bit back my harsh words when I saw it. It really wasn't that bad. It was simple, nothing lacy or colourful. It was black leather and it actually looked rather sexy. I didn't like how short it was or how it obviously showed off my boobs with its heart shaped front but apart from that it was alright. Inside the box were some black heels to go with it, make up and lingerie. The lingerie I did not like.

"Seriously?" I glared at her and she laughed.

"I was just kidding about those. Really wanted to see your reaction. Anyway, you're going to be 18 so thought you might need them."

"I'm married Holly."

"And your life sucks. We're in Boise and after the mission today I'm taking you to a club where we're going to get drunk off our faces and hook up with strangers. No one is going to know."

"I'm not going to do that to Brenton Holly."

"Come on Jade..."

"So what's this gift Holly refused to show me?" Jason came down, his arm wrapped up and in a sling.

"Nothing." I quickly shoved the lingerie, heels and dress back into the box and closed the lid with an innocent smile. Jason looked suspicious as he passed me his gift. It too was a box but without any tacky wrapping.

"This better not be a short skirt." I mumbled to myself as I opened it. I almost squealed before I jumped on Jason. He groaned as I hit his arm but let me squeeze the shit out of him.

"I get you clothes and you glare at me, Jason gets you a gun and you're as happy as lassie?" Holly complained. "So typical."

"Thanks Jase." I kissed his cheek as I then pulled my new baby out of its box. A Walther PPK, all mine.

"Now you can be just like James Bond Jade." Jason said proudly, sticking out his tongue at his sister. I then proceeded to load up my gun, clicking the safety off.

"Who's ready to kick some werewolf ass?"
