I was falling and the dropping feeling in my stomach made me feel sick. I let out a cry of pain as I hit the top of one of the shelves hard, landing on my side. I was going to get a big bruise.
I looked up to see a huge hole in the platform I once stood on and realised I had just been bombed. I shakily got to my feet, my vision blurry and a huge pain travelling up my side. Above, on the railing stood a man who looked at me in fury. He dropped down onto one of the neighbouring shelves and shifted into his wolf form.
He was a big wolf, a dark chocolate colour and his teeth glinted in the dim lighting of the warehouse as he let out a rather frightening growl. Lucky it didn't scare me much because I was a hunter.
I shakily took out my two swords, preparing myself for his attack. But I felt dizzy and there appeared to be two wolves in front of me as he jumped from shelf to shelf, getting closer and closer. Which one was it? Which do I attack? I was panicking, unsure which to choose.
I must have also misinterpreted how close he really was as I felt myself being knocked back and him lunge for my neck to rip it out. I lifted my sword just in time to stop him. His teeth snapped at me and all I could see were hundreds of teeth. I was definitely needing a lie down and rest after that bomb.
His teeth continued to snap at me and I knew I was loosing because he was so much stronger. I needed to think but I couldn't. For once, the fear was actually overcoming me. Is this why Brenton had sent me out here? Because he knew I wasn't ready? The thought made my heart break. Maybe he was right. Maybe I was too reckless and immature to be a real hunter yet. Somehow I always failed him and everyone else. I failed mum and dad. The thought made a tear trickle down my cheek. I have failed everyone.
I was suddenly remembering back to my nightmare with my mother. She had apologised for ruining my life. I hadn't understood it at the time. Is this what she meant? No it didn't make sense. I still had a purpose, my life couldn't possibly be over yet. I still had to wear those hideous lingerie Holly bought me. God I thought of the weirdest things in times close to death.
Using all of my might, I pushed back on the sword, not letting his teeth get any closer. I dug into my bra with my face, grabbing the whistle and pulling it out by my teeth. I pointed it right in the middle of his forehead before I blew. Out flew a small dart and the wolf on top of me froze before his eyes rolled to the back of his head before he collapsed on top of me. I let out a sigh of relief, laying there for a moment before climbing to my feet. I found it completely silent and wondered if they were all dead yet.
"Jade!" I heard Holly call to me and I noticed her on the floor below me, a few aisles away. I jumped down, ignoring the pain in my knees and ran over to her.
"Are they dead?"
"Not all of them. Two got away. Jason is tracking them down now but they're in the forest. He needs our help." She then took off, me on her heels as we sprinted out of the warehouse and into the forest. I pulled out my cell phone, dialling Jason's number. He picked up on the last ring and I heard his heavy breathing into the phone.
"Hey where are you?" I asked.
"Is Holly with you?" He asked worriedly.
"Yes, she's safe." I heard him let out a sigh of relief.
"Ok you and Holly have to get out of here. Take the SUV and go."
"What? Jason we're not leaving you. There are still two out there."
"And I'm chasing them now. You won't find us. Just go. There are werewolves out on the lose now. It's night so the trade was supposed to happen now. It's not safe."
